Ticks available for EV?

Hi all,

 

So coming from a totalled Fusion Hybrid we'd always see up to 2 ticks on the empower screen. I was once on a long downhill drive and swore it gliched up to 3.

 

Anyways I saw this picture in another thread and the Energi will give you up to 4 ticks, and in hybrid mode go back to 2? Hmm if this is the case and the ticks aren't variable then this means the hybrid maxes out at 40kW to the electric motor where the the energi can get closer to it's 88 spec'd max?

The Energi cannot output 88 kW of power from the motor.  The maximum power that can be supplied by the HVB to the electric motor is 68 kW.  If the motor is 86% efficient, then the maximum output of the motor is 58 kW.

Do you know what the max supplied from the HVB to the electric motor is in the hybrid? Seems definetly less?

I don't know what the maximum discharge limit is for the Hybrid.  Ford's web site specifies what it is for the Energi, but not the Hybrid. 

 

The above chart is actually showing the maximum charge limit for the HVB.  Charging is limited to 35 kW.  But when the battery is cold, the charge limit is significantly less. 

 

The discharge limit is also temperature dependent, but is not limited as much as is charging.  It is usually in the upper 60's.

Also is the picture from my first post accuate? Do you remeber if you empower threshold is 4 ticks or 2 like the hybrid.

It is four bars when you see the three dimensional battery display and have EV range left.

 

It is two bars when you see a two dimensional battery display and are in hybrid mode after using up all your plug-in energy.

So sounds like the amount of kW available to the electric motor is different between EV mode (4 ticks) vs hybird mode (2 ticks)... Thanks for all the replies.

The Fusion Hybrid shows a maximum discharge limit of 35 kW under most conditions. Sometimes it can be more limited. That's why the hybrid shows less power available without the ICE turning on. Once the Energi battery is depleted the car switches over to "hybrid" mode which acts much like the FFH.
