hankanddara Posted February 26, 2015 at 08:07 PM Report Share Posted February 26, 2015 at 08:07 PM I see that ebay has several Nissan branded Level One (120 Volt) chargers for as low as $249. The cheapest Ford charger I've seen is $595. Will the Leaf charger work as a spare convenience charger for my FFE? Thanks!
Hybridbear Posted February 26, 2015 at 09:13 PM Report Share Posted February 26, 2015 at 09:13 PM The Ford charger & Fusion follow the J1772 protocol. The Leaf does as well. It should work just fine.
shaggy314 Posted March 2, 2015 at 08:50 PM Report Share Posted March 2, 2015 at 08:50 PM That is the key for ANY charger you get for the Ford cars, that is support and has a J1772 plug/protocol. That way, the car and the charger talk to each other to decide what power to provide.
hankanddara Posted March 4, 2015 at 05:51 AM Author Report Share Posted March 4, 2015 at 05:51 AM I just received the Leaf charger (very slightly used) from eBay for $249. It works great! jeff_h
tsarty17 Posted April 9, 2015 at 04:05 AM Report Share Posted April 9, 2015 at 04:05 AM I just ordered a brand new one $289 shipped on ebay. I wanted a second charger to leave at worj so I'm not constantly lugging them around. Anyone else buying other chargers? I also like how Nissans comes with a carry bag. Where is ours ford? lonzo71 Posted April 9, 2015 at 04:43 PM Report Share Posted April 9, 2015 at 04:43 PM Just saw a Ford one for 150.00 used http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ford-Focus-Fusion-Volt-120-Volt-Electric-Battery-Car-Charger-OEM-FM58-10B706AC/391106843135?_trksid=p2047675.c100010.m2109&_trkparms=aid%3D333008%26algo%3DRIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D29266%26meid%3D0b428a55799d483db00620f076239001%26pid%3D100010%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D21%26sd%3D131479761134
Homegameroom Posted April 9, 2015 at 04:48 PM Report Share Posted April 9, 2015 at 04:48 PM I bought a Mitsubishi iMiev charger on eBay for $100. It works like a charm!! The cable to the J1772 connector seems fairly heavy when compared to the Ford Level 1 charger; I might use it if I ever get a home 220 charger DIY kit. zippoking Posted April 14, 2015 at 05:39 PM Report Share Posted April 14, 2015 at 05:39 PM Someone at work that has a Volt and I with my FFE tried each others chargers and they did not work. The Volt charger has (and this may have changed at some point) a selector button for 8 and 12 A charging, since the Volt supports that with its charger. That may be controlled on the dash in newer ones. But this charger wouldn't work on my FFE at the 12A setting. He also couldn't use mine, but the outlet we had was really remote and maybe had some Voltage drop, because he would get a fault charging at 12A, although 8A would work. I could charge just fine at 12A with my Ford charger, so it must have been close. I'd be curious if anyone else has had success with Volt charger. I may have posted about this a while back... He's not here anymore so we can't experiment anymore, plus they took away the plug for this use (ggrr). Whatever, I still average 80mpg.
