cegarbage Posted February 6, 2015 at 06:53 PM Report Share Posted February 6, 2015 at 06:53 PM My FFE has only 2,500 miles on it. I find when I go from park to drive, I hear a little thump. I find that I have to change the gears extremely slowly to not hear anything. Does anyone else have that issue?
larryh Posted February 6, 2015 at 07:24 PM Report Share Posted February 6, 2015 at 07:24 PM Are you in EV mode or is the ICE running?
cegarbage Posted February 6, 2015 at 08:02 PM Author Report Share Posted February 6, 2015 at 08:02 PM I don't keep track, but probably a little of both. Sometimes I run short errands and leave the car in EV only.
openair Posted February 7, 2015 at 01:09 AM Report Share Posted February 7, 2015 at 01:09 AM (edited) Do you use the parking break? Is the vehicle on a bit of a hill when this occurs? Most vehicles give a thump shifting out of park if there is pressure on the park pin from even a small incline. To prevent this, engage the parking break before letting go of the break pedal after shifting into park. cegarbage Posted February 7, 2015 at 06:37 PM Author Report Share Posted February 7, 2015 at 06:37 PM Its not a parking brake issue. I've accidentally had it on a couple times when getting out of park and get a louder noise..which i expected. It seems like unless I baby it out of park to drive its going to make a little thump. Shifting within other gears is much easier than getting out of park
openair Posted February 7, 2015 at 07:35 PM Report Share Posted February 7, 2015 at 07:35 PM I never said it was leaving the parking break on. I said it was lack or improper use of the parking break. If you use the parking break as I described than there is something else going on. If you engage the parking after letting go of the break pedal than this could be why. expresspotato Posted May 5, 2015 at 07:43 PM Report Share Posted May 5, 2015 at 07:43 PM (edited) In my 2013 FFH when I wanted to park I would - Still with my foot on the brake pedal shift into park - Pull the electric parking brake and let it go - I could hear it engage and release the brake Car stayed pretty well. If you just use the regular park yeah there is going to be some tension on the parking pin in the tranny. But yeah take it in if you're not feeling right about it.
