EnergiCCAATS Posted February 2, 2015 at 03:10 PM Report Share Posted February 2, 2015 at 03:10 PM Ford engineers should have implemented this feature into the Energi models. http://www.myfordmag.com/news/transit-connect-windshield-defroster I'm not sure how much kW this uses, but it's got to be way more efficient than turning on the HVAC system defrost (which draws 5 kW and quickly drains the HVB) which I only use to defog the windshield so I can actually see where I'm going! I know the rear defroster doesn't use much electricity at all because it doesn't reduce the electric range when on. I understand you can't use the same type "grid line" defroster on the front windshield, but if Ford HAS this technology in their stable, why didn't they implement it on the Energi models? Steve smith Posted February 2, 2015 at 03:42 PM Report Share Posted February 2, 2015 at 03:42 PM FORD ARE YOU LISTENING ?? CCAATS is right on . we need this technology for safety and efficiency along with real LED headlight like the Focus.. Also need a EASY way to use VENT air without hitting three or four screen applications.
Timewellspent Posted February 2, 2015 at 06:43 PM Report Share Posted February 2, 2015 at 06:43 PM My dad used to own a couple cadillac's in the 90's that had heated windshields. I know he said they were expensive to replace after taking in a few times after getting hit with rocks. I think they stopped that option, but I could be wrong. Hybridbear Posted February 3, 2015 at 02:26 PM Report Share Posted February 3, 2015 at 02:26 PM For years Focus Electric owners have been saying the same thing. Ford offers this as an option in Europe, but not in North America. I don't think anyone has had success in getting an answer as to why it's not available in North America. Here's a video from Ford Europe about it: larryh and meyersnole
EnergiCCAATS Posted February 3, 2015 at 03:05 PM Author Report Share Posted February 3, 2015 at 03:05 PM I probably should have posted this in the "climate control" section. Mods, feel free to move this thread if you would like. Hopefully Ford will see this and consider implementing on the next gen Energi and Electric models. meyersnole
