I wish the dash would show a warning that its been left open. Edited January 12, 2015 at 06:42 PM by josefontao
Fat Fusion Posted January 12, 2015 at 05:29 PM Report Share Posted January 12, 2015 at 05:29 PM It happens to most of us when it's new. I now use my left hand to remove the charger, then use my right thumb to close the door- all in one motion.
Russael Posted January 12, 2015 at 05:40 PM Report Share Posted January 12, 2015 at 05:40 PM I saw a Fusion Energi on Friday of last week with the charge port door open while on the road. :) On occasion, I'll catch a CMAX with the charge door open too. There's more CMAXes around here than Fusion Energi/Hybrids.
meyersnole Posted January 13, 2015 at 07:54 PM Report Share Posted January 13, 2015 at 07:54 PM It happens, but the best way is to try to do the same motions every time you unplug. It will eventually become natural with out thinking about it. When I first started doing this I got in trouble when I would break my routine... more times than leaving the door open this is how I came out to see the car was not plugged in and charging. Just make it your routine to plug the car in right after getting out and closing the cap as part of the routine. Like Fat Fusion, I unplug and close the door before I put the plug in the back into the charger. (Would have been nice to have an idiot light for this.) HotLap Posted January 15, 2015 at 07:07 PM Report Share Posted January 15, 2015 at 07:07 PM Agree with you guys and the worst is when you actually forget to plug it in! I've done both multiple times! If only charging were wireless and the car could sense when near an energy source and start drinking it up!
lonzo71 Posted January 15, 2015 at 07:33 PM Report Share Posted January 15, 2015 at 07:33 PM (edited) Never forgot to plug it in, but I have the port. The first time, I had 2 cars rode down their window to tell me that it was open. The last time, I drove 2 blocks and then I remembered, so I pulled off the road and closed it. One would have thought someone would have added a warning light, just like the one for the fuel door... Oh and you can add a reminder about charging it on the MFM :) Edited January 15, 2015 at 07:33 PM by lonzo71
marelind Posted April 19, 2015 at 12:28 AM Report Share Posted April 19, 2015 at 12:28 AM Does anyone get the feeling like you just found out your zipper is down? Hybridbear, traumatic and FourAgreements
traumatic Posted April 19, 2015 at 05:52 AM Report Share Posted April 19, 2015 at 05:52 AM Does anyone get the feeling like you just found out your zipper is down? ha! I saw the reflection of my car while sitting in traffic with the port open, so I rolled down the window and popped it shut from the drivers seat. Like a zipper, it was awkward to address the situation, but in my mind, more embarrassing to be seen driving with the fly open. Kind of like having toilet paper stuck to the back wheel! murphy Posted April 19, 2015 at 10:34 AM Report Share Posted April 19, 2015 at 10:34 AM Close the cap the instant you remove the charging plug from the socket. Don't wait until after the plug has been put away. If something diverts your attention it will be left open.
Doug0716 Posted April 19, 2015 at 03:12 PM Report Share Posted April 19, 2015 at 03:12 PM I've found that sometimes when I thought I closed it, it re-opened on me. It seems that either I got better at closing it though. I think I've forgotten to plug the car in 2 or 3 times in the last 5 months.
shaggy314 Posted May 13, 2015 at 06:45 PM Report Share Posted May 13, 2015 at 06:45 PM Same here. I was CONVINCED that there was a bug in the door as I kept finding it open the first 3 months. Then I formed a habit of unhook right hand and with it still in my hand close with left (opposite putting it in) and like magic it stopped happening. I blame Ford. LOL Seriously I do wish we had a door like the Volt, I'm worried in a few years the cleaver spin system will break/wear down. I charge twice a day...
