HotLap Posted December 19, 2014 at 11:08 PM Report Share Posted December 19, 2014 at 11:08 PM Thanks Meyers for sharing, I'll keep an eye out for this! In the meantime I've got to remember to apply for the Federal Credit on this year's taxes. Already received the CA rebate check of $1500.00. meyersnole Posted December 20, 2014 at 03:37 AM Author Report Share Posted December 20, 2014 at 03:37 AM Unfortunately I live in a state that has almost no additional incentives. We are eligible for HOV (if we had any, maybe Charlotte?). http://www.pluginamerica.org/incentives
Russael Posted December 20, 2014 at 05:14 AM Report Share Posted December 20, 2014 at 05:14 AM Michigan has no state endorsed incentives... only the ones provided by the utility companies. Edison was offering a free charging station, so long as you let them hook it up to a separate meter and then let them charge you time-of-day rates on it. I know a Volt owner who took advantage of it. California has a lot of restrictions on emissions and because electric is so much cleaner, I think they enjoy pushing that as much as they can. Too bad they aren't putting up any new power plants to help control the cost of the alternative 'fuel'. I think it's purely environmental for air quality. HotLap Posted December 20, 2014 at 05:33 AM Report Share Posted December 20, 2014 at 05:33 AM Russael, I think you are right...but Cali has some of the highest gas taxes so us FFE owners are saving there as well!
Russael Posted December 20, 2014 at 06:33 AM Report Share Posted December 20, 2014 at 06:33 AM According to this website, California is number 1 for gasoline tax, Michigan is number 6, so we're way up there too. http://taxfoundation.org/blog/map-state-gasoline-tax-rates-2014 meyersnole
meyersnole Posted December 21, 2014 at 01:38 AM Author Report Share Posted December 21, 2014 at 01:38 AM North Carolina checking in at #9... but really we should be raising this everywhere to encourage higher efficiency and alternate sources. Fat Fusion Posted December 24, 2014 at 01:27 AM Report Share Posted December 24, 2014 at 01:27 AM Why raise taxes to encourage higher efficiency when they're already legislating higher efficiency??? :headscratch:
meyersnole Posted December 26, 2014 at 04:46 AM Author Report Share Posted December 26, 2014 at 04:46 AM Why raise taxes to encourage higher efficiency when they're already legislating higher efficiency??? :headscratch:In my opinion, the cost of fuel should be more representive of the cost of burning fossils fuel. The health concerns it costs, the infrastructure necessary to support it, offsets to promote alternate energy (like these tax incentives). Higher fuel cost is part of comprehensive regulation strategy, as long as the additional revenue is specifically tasked. HotLap Posted January 13, 2015 at 05:03 PM Report Share Posted January 13, 2015 at 05:03 PM (edited) Meyers...therein lies the rub...years ago we were promised better schools (here in CA) if we would pass the lottery bill and while education has not improved, it appears the lottery $$'s have been diverted into the State's "General Revenue Fund"...the State has been caught dipping into the off-road vehicle Green Sticker Permit funds as well which are supposed to be spent on off-road related expenditures...I don't trust the politicians...I do understand and support where you are coming from...another example would be the processed food industry, many of their products (especially those aimed at children) are basically poison, and are creating many health issues...while the industry focuses on bettering their bottom line at the expense of our health, imagine the added burden on healthcare costs due to early onset diabetes, child obesity, heart disease, etc. A 12 oz can of soda has TWELVE teaspoons of sugar in it :0 that's horrible, would you ever put TWELVE teaspoons of sugar in anything? An interesting read is a book "Salt, Sugar & Fat" basically an expose on the processed food industry by an investigative journalist working with long-time industry insiders...poisoning America! Tony the Tiger that big lovable cartoon "friend" of our children, well Frosted Flakes are over 50% sugar...just saying... meyersnole Posted January 13, 2015 at 08:35 PM Author Report Share Posted January 13, 2015 at 08:35 PM Don't want to get into a political discussion... one of the things I like about this board is that it seems to pretty neutral on the topic and probably why we all get along. That said, we are of like mind and frustration. However, IMO just because it is not currently working the way it should is not an excuse to not try and fix it or attempt to put in an ideal system. One day hopefully the children in congress will be sent packing and we can get some reasonable adults that will go about the task of solving issues.
