smokewagon Posted December 2, 2014 at 01:47 PM Report Share Posted December 2, 2014 at 01:47 PM Just got a letter from Ford it's about the recall for air bag control module. It states if you have a warning light on go in for service immediately and if not wait for further notice until more replacement components are in stock.Failure due to corrosion, hot and humid areas of the country only. Anybody else get this notice? smoke
murphy Posted December 2, 2014 at 02:52 PM Report Share Posted December 2, 2014 at 02:52 PM Yes, 750,000 people will get this notice. Parts won't be available until September of 2015 for those that don't have an airbag light on.. It's a multi-manufacturer recall because the company that makes them supplies everybody and his brother. I wonder what the definition of hot and humid is? It gets hot and humid in Philadelphia, PA in August. Right now it is cold and dry. Hybridbear
howardbc Posted December 2, 2014 at 06:43 PM Report Share Posted December 2, 2014 at 06:43 PM I received the same letter. Safety Recall Notice 14S21 / NHTSA Recall 14V-597. It refers to "restraints control module." Why can't they use laymen's English? Is that the seat belts? An airbag restrains you but not like the seat belts. I thought the Tanaka airbag recall didn't apply to our cars. Am I incorrect? I'm hoping our helpful Ford moderators will give us the straight scoop on this. Thanks. oarabi1 Posted December 3, 2014 at 03:38 PM Report Share Posted December 3, 2014 at 03:38 PM I just joined this forum today. Googled some questions about my vehicle and it directed me here. I work in Seats and Restraints at Ford Motor Company (I'm on the seats side). I can get more information for anyone who needs it. I called the dealership and they said if the Airbag light isn't on, not to come in since parts are limited. They are more than happy to look at it for you thought if you want them to. No light means no issue...but definitely take it in if it will make you more comfortable. howardbc
howardbc Posted December 3, 2014 at 10:01 PM Report Share Posted December 3, 2014 at 10:01 PM Thanks, oarabi1! You are very welcome here. I think the only question that hasn't been definitively answered is "Is this recall related to the Tanaka airbag problem?" Yes, I read the Ford recall and the related press releases, but they were obviously written by attorneys and/or technical people with no regard for us simple folk understanding what they're saying. The research I've done on my own makes it sound like this Ford recall is NOT related to the Tanaka airbag problem, but it bothers me that no one will just say so. murphy Posted December 3, 2014 at 10:34 PM Report Share Posted December 3, 2014 at 10:34 PM The restraints control module is what fires the airbags and tensions the seat belts in the event of a collision. The Takata airbag recall applies to 2002 through 2008 vehicles. http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/news/2014/10/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-takata-air-bag-recall/index.htm howardbc and jdbob
