kafryn99 Posted November 14, 2014 at 07:26 PM Report Share Posted November 14, 2014 at 07:26 PM Hi all - I am in the market for a new car and am very interested in the Energi. But I will be moving to Vienna, Austria next summer so I need to make sure any car I buy now will actually work there. From what I can see, the Fusion is called the Mundeo in Europe. Does anyone know if it is possible to charge the Energi on a 220V system? Is it just a matter of buying a different cord with Euro round prongs? Thanks! murphy Posted November 14, 2014 at 07:46 PM Report Share Posted November 14, 2014 at 07:46 PM Not with the charger that comes with the car, that is 120 volts only. You would need a 220 to 120 converter capable of handling 15 amps on the 120 volt side. Better to get a seperate 220 volt charger. That is what I use all of the time in the USA. It would probably be a waste of money to get the navigation package since it is unlikely there is support for Europe for a Fusion but ask the Ford representative , Kim, on this forum. There may be other changes needed to a US car that is in Europe.

Thanks! If you are moving for work, check out the import tax situation. You may have to pay import and/or VAT taxes if you bring in a vehicle. It might be cheaper to buy something over there. If you are on military or foreign service duty, this may not apply.
Kybuck Posted November 15, 2014 at 05:21 AM Report Share Posted November 15, 2014 at 05:21 AM I don't think there's an Energi version of the Mondeo. It's also worth noting that European power tends to be 50 Hz, not the 60 Hz that we have in the US. I don't see anything specific in the manual that specifically addresses the frequency. I'd recommend significant research prior to importing a US Energi into Europe. That being said, there are other EVs sold in Europe, so there's some hope that you could find a working charging solution.
murphy Posted November 15, 2014 at 12:07 PM Report Share Posted November 15, 2014 at 12:07 PM I don't think frequency will matter because the charger in the car is rectifying the AC to DC to charge the battery. I used the previous version of this one until recently. http://www.leviton.com/OA_HTML/ProductDetail.jsp?partnumber=EVB22-3PT§ion=37741&minisite=10251 You could contact Leviton to verify if it works ok at 50 Hz. Their online specifications don't mention frequency. Servicing of the car in Europe may be a problem. In the US a dealer must be certified to service electric vehicles. There may not be any certified dealers in Europe since the car is not sold there.
chuckyeager Posted December 4, 2014 at 02:02 PM Report Share Posted December 4, 2014 at 02:02 PM I live in the Netherlands and drive a Fusion Energi. I use a 240 Charger and have no problems with that. Satnav doesn't work (yet). Maybe after the map material for the new modeo comes available. There won't be a mondeo plug-in for the coming year...
