Dag Posted November 14, 2014 at 02:35 AM Report Share Posted November 14, 2014 at 02:35 AM I tried to explain this noise to my dealer, but they were unable to duplicate it. Thoughts on what it might be? http://youtu.be/eLQzfHBAduw
Hybridbear Posted November 14, 2014 at 01:13 PM Report Share Posted November 14, 2014 at 01:13 PM Which noise? The crash or the buzzing? The buzzing is the brake booster vacuum pump.

Russael Posted November 14, 2014 at 01:36 PM Report Share Posted November 14, 2014 at 01:36 PM Did that happen as you hit the brakes or did it just happen as you were rolling out? Since you have a 2013 Energi, there is a TSB for a 'pop' or a bang from the front end... I believe 13-5-24: Half shaft clicking/popping is what it might be. I've had that bang happen a tiny handful of times. It's very intermittent for me. My car was built in May, so that was right around the time this TSB came around. See post number 5 in this thread for the attachment: http://www.fordfusionenergiforum.com/topic/1248-collection-of-tsbs-related-to-energi/ Dag
jeff_h Posted November 14, 2014 at 01:36 PM Report Share Posted November 14, 2014 at 01:36 PM I would guess that the parking brake was set and was hanging and suddenly released - but that may not be the case since it looks like the car was rolling backward pretty smoothly. Is this a one-time thing or something you've heard many times? If many times, are there any conditions which make it more likely to occur? jeff_h Posted November 14, 2014 at 01:39 PM Report Share Posted November 14, 2014 at 01:39 PM 13-5-24: Half shaft clicking/popping My 2013 hybrid definitely had that clicking/popping and was fixed when they added the thrust washers noted in the above TSB, but in the case of my car the sound was more like a ping-pong ball hitting the table and only occurred at the start of motion rather than when already moving. But maybe worth having the dealer check anyway if this car's build date is within the range of the TSB. Dag
Russael Posted November 14, 2014 at 01:51 PM Report Share Posted November 14, 2014 at 01:51 PM Mine has done it moving about the same distance as Dag did. I don't know if thrust washers are on mine or not, but like I mentioned, it's super intermittent. I also don't back straight out of the garage (I need to turn in and out, leaving the wheel turned left). Dag
Dag Posted November 14, 2014 at 02:27 PM Author Report Share Posted November 14, 2014 at 02:27 PM It's intermittent. Seems to be within the first five feet of going backwards. The car rolls smooth before and after.

Rexracer Posted November 14, 2014 at 04:19 PM Report Share Posted November 14, 2014 at 04:19 PM Based solely on sound, I would say you keep backing through your garage door! Try raising it up before backing up, it will save your house and your car.... Ok kidding aside. I would have agreed with Jeff that its the parking brake hanging and then releasing suddenly. My 2013 is a march build, and I have never heard this noise, and I too go straight back first thing. When its figured out please report back! openair Posted November 14, 2014 at 07:48 PM Report Share Posted November 14, 2014 at 07:48 PM (edited) I often hear a similar noise with my 2014 fusion energi when first backing out my garage in the morning. Maybe not as loud. Always after a meter or 3 of reversing. Not as a I begin reversing. I do use the parking break and have heard this noise even when the parking break has been disengaged with the parking break indicator off for a good 30 seconds or more. I can sometimes feel a slight change in the motion of the vehicle when the pop occurs but she drives as normal before and after. Hybridbear Posted November 14, 2014 at 08:23 PM Report Share Posted November 14, 2014 at 08:23 PM Is it cold where you are when the noise happens? Could it be ice related? Does it happen when the car is warm? Or just when it has been sitting awhile & is cold?
Dag Posted November 14, 2014 at 08:30 PM Author Report Share Posted November 14, 2014 at 08:30 PM I do not believe its ICE related since from what I recall it happens in the morning when I leave for work after a full charge. The ICE isn't on.
openair Posted November 14, 2014 at 08:34 PM Report Share Posted November 14, 2014 at 08:34 PM The vehicle is usually cool, having not been driven in ~12 hours, when it occurs. It has happen for most the 2.5 months I've owned my vehicle so I do not believe it is ice forming. Until this thread I had passed it off as normal. A missing washer, such as something similar but maybe not identical to the half shalf tsb above, could potentially only cause an issue like this when the vehicle is cool as well. Could explain why Dag dealers was unable to reproduce it after the vehicle had been driven into the dealer.

Rexracer Posted January 13, 2015 at 12:00 AM Report Share Posted January 13, 2015 at 12:00 AM So I have been hearing a small pop noise for a while sometimes (not always listing for it), but yesterday I heard it as loud as this one.Not totally sure what it is, but doesn't seem like something is breaking so not really concerned. mwoomer Posted April 11, 2015 at 10:48 AM Report Share Posted April 11, 2015 at 10:48 AM Greetings, Has the issue been solved? I have the same noise, except with the following differences:-forward only-between 0-20 mph-drivers side only-never in reverse-mostly in EV mode, but also with ICE-didn't start until after PCM recall repair-it's NOT the electric motor mount, which was replaced earlier in the week Engaged with FCSD as of this week. Thanks.
