garymkrieg Posted October 6, 2014 at 06:33 PM Report Share Posted October 6, 2014 at 06:33 PM Have on order a 2015 Fusion Energi Titanium. We will be towing this car behind a motorhome. The braking system that we will be using has to plug into a 12 volt plug, ie cigarette lighter outlet. My question is this, the setup to tow includes turning the car the off as the last step. Are there any 12 volt outlets in the car that will stay powered, indefinitely, with the car turned off? Gary
murphy Posted October 6, 2014 at 06:42 PM Report Share Posted October 6, 2014 at 06:42 PM I can only answer for my 2013 but I would expect the 2015 to be the same. There are three 12 volt power outlets in the cabin. They all turn off approximately 70 minutes after the car is shut down. They shut down much sooner if the 12 volt battery is low on charge. You might be able to use the jump start points in the engine compartment. They are connected directly to the battery.
shaggy314 Posted October 6, 2014 at 06:55 PM Report Share Posted October 6, 2014 at 06:55 PM I wouldn't do it that way. Our cars have a SMALL 12vt battery and depending on the time you tow it or if after dark and the lights are on, It'd kill it. I'd personally be temped to buy a stand alone full size car battery to run them or run back to the pulling vehicle. I'd be scared to tow with the car awake, but I doubt you could kill the HVB as (in theory) the gas engine would start if it got low... garymkrieg Posted October 6, 2014 at 09:16 PM Author Report Share Posted October 6, 2014 at 09:16 PM I forgot to mention that we will be charging the small 12 volt battery from the motorhome while it is being towed, so no worries about the battery. But it seems, based on the answers that I received, that none of those outlets will stay energized while towing. Gary

Get an auxiliary outlet and zip tie it under the hood to something.
waynelee Posted December 1, 2014 at 04:02 AM Report Share Posted December 1, 2014 at 04:02 AM (edited) I've been towing many a vehicle behind my RV's for many years. I use a Bake Buddy for my dinghy's breaking for almost 8 years now. To avoid battery drain, I use one of those "jump start" batteries. I place this battery on the passenger side floor and plug the Brake Buddy into it. The "jump start" battery charge has lasted longer than my longest drive of 4 days straight. I am thinking of setting up my Fusion for towing. Did you have any problems with finding tow bar base plates for the Fusion?
