My name is Jason Allen and I purchased a 2013 Fusion SE Energi two weeks ago.  I teach hybrid and electric vehicle content at the local community college.  I dreamed of owning a PHEV but the cost was prohibitive.  My decision to purchase a PHEV came when the price of a new 2013 was less than the hybrid ($12,000 less than sticker).  The college I teach for has a 2014 Fusion Hybrid, 2011 Silverado Hybrid, 2001 Honda Insight, 2 Honda Civic Hybrids, 2011 Chevrolet Volt, 3 Prius and two full electric conversions (S-10 with lead acid batteries and an Isuzu Impulse with a large Lithium battery).  One of the Prius has a large Lithium battery add-on for extended electric range.

I loved the look of the Fusion and the extended all electric range of the Energi.  My wife and I could not justify the cost of the plug-in until they wanted to close out the remaining 2013s before the 2015s come out.  The irony of the situation is before I was an instructor at the community college, I was a career GM technician.  After 17 years in the field I decided to return to school to get out of the shop.  Purchasing a Ford makes me feel like I'm having an affair.  I am not familiar with the product, but I am excited about what I have experienced so far.  I purchased gas for the first time the other day because it was $2.999, not because I needed it.  I had 685 miles on it and I forced 6.6 gallons into it.  I am not a genius, but that was a pleasurable feeling!  $20 for almost 700 miles!!

I considered purchasing a Volt because of my GM knowledge but I could not justify the cost for 4 seats.  So far I love my Fusion!

Congratulations and welcome.  I have been very happy with the Fusion Energi I purchased in April of 2013. During the first year of ownership, I spent a total of $600 on gas, electricity, and service to drive 12,000 miles.  That includes a lot of electricity used to precondition the car with a 240 V charger during one of our coldest MN winters on record.  I am constantly trying to understand how the PHEV technology in the Energi works and to optimize mileage.  You should look around the forum to see other people's and my observations regarding the Energi, and feel free to jump in on any of the discussions.
