howardbc Posted July 27, 2014 at 06:44 PM Report Share Posted July 27, 2014 at 06:44 PM For over a year, I have manually plugged in/charged my car every night before I go to bed. I use a standard 120v outlet in my garage. I don't use any kind of "Go" times or anything that is programmed. I just plug it in every night around 9-11pm and it has been working great. The other day I drove my car in the morning, but I knew I'd need to make another trip later that day, so when I got home from my morning trip I plugged my car in so that I would get at least a small charge-up before my next trip in a couple of hours. However, the green light on the charger cord never blinked. The blue light around the charge port door never lit up. Anyone have any thoughts on why it wouldn't charge? I know the car has the ability to remember certain things. Have I somehow "trained" it to only charge at night when I'm home? If so, how do I un-train it? But it does charge during the day when I use a Blink or Volta charging station. Getting my own Level2 charger is out of the question right now because I would have to spend at least $1000 just to install a 240v outlet. (Power box on opposite side of house and wires would have to go up and across my roof.) Then there's the expense of the L2 charger itself. It has been extremely hot here. But it's just as hot at the Blink and Volta chargers and they work great. I'm stumped. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks.
jeff_h Posted July 27, 2014 at 07:25 PM Report Share Posted July 27, 2014 at 07:25 PM What does it say on your MFM account? I wonder if it could be related to another recent thread? http://www.fordfusionenergiforum.com/topic/2358-value-charge-not-working-car-charging-when-it-shouldnt/
pluggedin Posted July 27, 2014 at 07:57 PM Report Share Posted July 27, 2014 at 07:57 PM (edited) I have experienced that same issue several times over the past year. It just seems the car gets out of sync and doesn't "see" that you have plugged the car in so I have learned to ALWAYS wait until I see the charge ring flash, I hear the charger click and see the charging indicator light on the charger flashing before I walk away from the car. What has worked for me when the car does not accept a charge right away is to get in the car and hit the start button, with the charger still plugged into the car, and the car should immediately accept the charge. Turn the car off once it has accepted the charge and everything should return to normal after that. I have missed those signs a couple of times and have had to leave on an empty battery because of it. JATR4 Posted July 27, 2014 at 08:14 PM Report Share Posted July 27, 2014 at 08:14 PM Happens to me on occasion. Just delete your Go Times--even if you don't have any. If that doesn't work set up new Go Times and delete them. Do that on your phone or computer until the car starts charging. Or do the same in your car. Press the "leaves" icon and edit Go Times. Select "value charge" and then "charge now". The car should charge.
howardbc Posted July 27, 2014 at 08:16 PM Author Report Share Posted July 27, 2014 at 08:16 PM Thanks, pluggedin. I was in a hurry to get back inside my house and didn't want to wait in my hot garage, but that is a great tip about getting back in the car and hitting the "Start" button, etc. I didn't check MFM either. So I didn't know it hadn't done any charging until I rushed back out to the garage later only to discover than it hadn't done any charging. I will definitely be more patient next time and follow your suggestions. Thanks so much.
howardbc Posted July 27, 2014 at 08:18 PM Author Report Share Posted July 27, 2014 at 08:18 PM More good tips. Thanks, JATR4. I know I shouldn't have any "Go" times but will look and delete any just in case.
