CheFlaco Posted July 24, 2014 at 02:33 PM Report Share Posted July 24, 2014 at 02:33 PM Does anyone out there know if it is alright to leave the FFE plugged in even after it finishes completely charging? Say, like all day and night. I like to keep it plugged in because I never know if I will have to run out, and I just want to make sure that I am not harming the battery. Thanks. murphy Posted July 24, 2014 at 02:48 PM Report Share Posted July 24, 2014 at 02:48 PM Leaving it plugged in is fine. In fact it is required if you want to use GO times. Rexracer
snedecr Posted July 30, 2014 at 12:31 PM Report Share Posted July 30, 2014 at 12:31 PM The computer connects and disconnects the charging current, based on the state of charge of the battery. When the battery is full, the charging current is disconnected, so you are not harming your battery.

murphy Posted August 5, 2014 at 06:41 PM Report Share Posted August 5, 2014 at 06:41 PM (edited) When the computer disconnects the charging current does the draw on electricity also cease? For the most part. My Leviton 240 volt charger consumes 0.01 kWh per hour even when it is not connected to the car. larryh Posted August 5, 2014 at 08:36 PM Report Share Posted August 5, 2014 at 08:36 PM The 120 V charger consumes 2.2 watts when it is not charging the car. Are you sure 0.01 watts is correct?

zippoking Posted August 25, 2014 at 06:55 PM Report Share Posted August 25, 2014 at 06:55 PM Perhaps this has been covered elsewhere, but seems worth mention here too. I've noticed that when plugged in and not charging (for instance waiting for a value charge) it will still often run the cooling fans. I'm thinking this is more likely after just having been recently driven to cool down the hot battery pack. But what I've wondered and thought, wouldn't it be better if you have the choice to leave it plugged it so it could run the fan if its just really hot outside? Has anyone noticed the fans staying on long after use, say, more than a few hours later?
larryh Posted August 25, 2014 at 08:30 PM Report Share Posted August 25, 2014 at 08:30 PM When you have value charge enabled, the car will consume about 60-70 watts of power to charge the 12 V battery, run the on-board electronics, and the fans while waiting for the value charge time. Allowing the car to do this during peak hours (4pm to 9 pm) wipes out most of the savings I can obtain by charging at night (after 9 pm). I do not use value charge.
