ls1ssws6 Posted July 13, 2014 at 12:07 AM Report Share Posted July 13, 2014 at 12:07 AM (edited) First off sorry if this is in the wrong spot but I think it is. I leased my 14 energi Titanium June 4th and have LOVED it so far. The day I got it I put 20 inch rims on it which I know may take a mile or 2 from the EV range but still have done pretty good on managing regen and have stretched the range pretty well, well at least it has made me happy. I actually have only used 1/2 tank total of gas but that's cause I took about 4 highway trips. ANYWAY getting to the real question. I just got HID low beam/fogs, halos, and demon eyes from dynamik (AWSOME) and had them installed. I have driven it twice since adding that setup and have seemed like the EV miles go down pretty quickly. I looked and I was at 8 miles at .7 then it dropped to 7 miles about .4 of the next mileage if that makes sense. That's also with regen. Does this seem normal? I mean I just did the math on that but I know its about the same for the rest of the EV battery. Is there a way to reset it or could the halos be drawing THAT MUCH of the battery mileage??? Secondly when I'm on the highway I select EV later but notice the EV battery range still goes down. Not much but slowly, just wondering if this is normal? Thanks for the help Edited July 13, 2014 at 12:09 AM by ls1ssws6
meyersnole Posted July 13, 2014 at 02:45 AM Report Share Posted July 13, 2014 at 02:45 AM Not sure how much you added to your electrical system with the HID, etc... but there are screens that will tell you how much power you are drawing.... cycle through them on the left panel next to your speedometer. It is more likely that the additional weight of the tires, going from 17s to 20s, is having a much larger affect than you thought it would. Also, the faster you drive the more energy is required. So as you hit highway speeds you will see your projected range diminish quickly. About the gage with the mileage on it, it is simply a guess at how many miles you will be able to drive based on recent history. As you slow down the mileage will take more than a mile to adjust, speeding up or turning on the climate control (AC or Heat) will negatively affect this range. At higher speeds it is probably best to put the car into EV Later mode, and when you return to secondary roads go back to EV Now or Auto mode. Hope that helps! ls1ssws6 Posted July 13, 2014 at 10:33 PM Author Report Share Posted July 13, 2014 at 10:33 PM I see a few different options on the left buy can't find one that tells exactly how much power I'm using. And as far as the wheels I got lightweight wheels that are only 6 pounds more per wheel so with the tire I'd say roughly 50 or so more than stock which I think is negligible. When I drive on the highway I turn it to EV later, actually I drove the same trip today and the mileage didn't fluctuate on the EV battery range the entire time so maybe it just had to relearn my driving like you said. And I never use the air cause it makes me sad to see it drop from 20ish down to 14ish with just turning on the AC haha. I think that is what it was just relearning if they had to disconnect the battery cause today's trip was pretty good.
Rexracer Posted July 14, 2014 at 03:16 PM Report Share Posted July 14, 2014 at 03:16 PM I want to see some pictures of your car with 20s. Remember 50lbs into wheels is a greater effect to the car then 50lbs into the trunk. So while I agree its not that big of a change, it is a decent weight gain to centrifugal force to roll those larger/heavier wheels. Also, the stock wheels are designed to be aerodynamic, so at higher speeds your going to be creating more turbulence (i.e. resistance) then the stock wheels. AND the stock tires are the low rolling resistance, and I am assuming the new tires are not. Lastly, just guessing, but I bet your new tires are wider then the stock tires, thus more resistance. Really all these changes shouldn't add up to much, but they will add up. And in EV Later mode it will still use the battery (stopped at light/traffic) and to help up hills etc as it deems need. It will conserve the battery as much as it can, but it will use it if needed as well. Lastly, I'm guessing you have/had a ~00 Trans AM? ls1ssws6 Posted July 14, 2014 at 05:27 PM Author Report Share Posted July 14, 2014 at 05:27 PM Yea I figured all that stuff BUT it seems like the EV has been going quickly since the lights went in. Before the lights when I had the 20s on it I was doing great with the EV mileage. I actually got 40 miles on it one time...dunno how but I did it lol I'm on my way home from work now, when I get in I'll post pictures of my halos,20s and all the other small mods. And yes I still have my trans am, 2001 NHRA edition. Heads can exhaust intake and a few other goodies lol I save gas with my energi for my trans to guzzle hahah Rexracer
