I especially wanted the Care Plan which covers the electronics. For me it was for peace of mind since this car has so many options that could go wrong. You can read what others have decided to do and whom they purchased from. Don't let you dealer pressure you. You may even tell them how much you can purchase it for directly from Ford. Check www.floodfordesp.com or Anderson and Koch for the best prices. Maintenance plan (oil changes, etc) - absolutely not. Unless you drive 30k a year, you won't get to really abuse it all that much... but then they put limits on that stuff too. Car needs oil changes are every 2 years or 20k miles (whenever the computer tells you to... could be less depending on how much gas travel you do vs EV travel), coolant is 6 years (forgot mileage). Transmission is 150k miles. If you're good at braking and using regen as much as possible, you could probably go 100k on brakes. A maintenance plan may be a deal for those who drive >12k a year and have a traditional gas vehicle. Hybrids, PHEVs, and BEVs have substantially reduced maintenance requirements. The first oil change is at 20,000 miles or 2 years, whichever comes first. If you use the regen braking properly the brake pads are not going to wear out. IMHO $400 a year for maintenance is pure profit for the dealer. If you actually meant the extended warranty, it depends on how many miles you drive per year. I am a low mileage driver and bought the 7 year / 36,000 mile / $0 deductible warranty extension from Flood Ford for $570. I will not reach 36,000 miles in 7 years. My husband can now do the told you so dance. :happy feet: If we would have purchased the ESP it would have been bad news to our great deal on our new 2013 (last 13 in the state) Fusion Energi Luxury MSRP $39K we got for $29K plus dealer prep, taxes, title etc. bring it to 33K, $0 down, 0% interest for 72 months. Plus we will get the $4007 in federal tax credit. I think we rocked it. It pays to purchase clearance models the last day of the month...the last day of the Quarter. If you can haggle your dealership down to the Flood Ford ESP prices, go for it. If not, buy it from them. I got a 7 year, 60k mile warranty. I bought mine in the 13th month and there was no cost difference between 11 months and 13 when I used the tool at website. Not sure they are still charging the $100 or if that is a region thing. You have plenty of time to decide and will probably find a better deal online, as mentioned above. Also, check if your car insurance company offers a "mechanical breakdown insurance". Sometimes these offer equal or better coverage at a significantly lower price than extended warranties (and it's usually not one big upfront payment, but a small yearly/bi-yearly payment). I nearly fell out of the chair when he said he'd match it. I was expecting him to not and I'd have bought from Flood. He said, "I was told about you." He also let me know that Flood's price was cheaper than what they charge employees. He added that I'd be surprised how many people accept his first offer and anyone balking got $500 off which was still $900 more than I paid. He wasn't worried about making the money back before the end of the day. As above, the prepaid maintenance is not worth it. I doubt I'll need the 7yr, 100k ESPP, but the piece of mind on a first year model car 5+ years out, was worth it for me. They are still tweaking it until the 2016 redesign.
