jza80 Posted June 14, 2014 at 11:16 PM Report Share Posted June 14, 2014 at 11:16 PM (edited) Just installed some 19" H-spoke wheels on my Energi, I thought I'd share the result: Before: After: I got lucky and the TPMS self-calibrated so I did not need to use a TPMS sensor activation tool or the tire deflation method. The other thing I have noticed after a brief drive is that the Continentals on the new wheels have less road noise than the original Michelin's, a lot more grip, and a very smooth ride with no increase in harshness that I can detect. The new setup is 7 pounds heavier per wheel, not too bad IMO. We'll see how fuel economy is affected. Next is some window tint. I would love to also revise the suspension with lower springs and firmer shocks but the current aftermarket offerings for springs are too low for my taste and there are no shock options yet. I'm hopeful that Ford will introduce an Energi version of the Mondeo eventually and if that happens then the euro calibration would likely be just right - slightly lower, slightly firmer. CT3113 Posted July 10, 2014 at 03:54 AM Report Share Posted July 10, 2014 at 03:54 AM Looks good! I am getting some new wheels for mine too. Hate the look of the factory wheels!
jza80 Posted July 10, 2014 at 03:44 PM Author Report Share Posted July 10, 2014 at 03:44 PM Thanks, I really like the new wheels and tires. The size of the Fusion really demands something larger than 17" wheels IMO. There is a fuel economy cost, though. It is hard to know the exactly but I would estimate about 2-3MPG with my current tires (which are not low rolling resistance). Still well worth it. Cairo94507 Posted July 10, 2014 at 09:26 PM Report Share Posted July 10, 2014 at 09:26 PM I just installed the exact same wheels on my FFE. I also installed the mud-guards, body side molding, shark fin antenna, low profile rear spoiler (I order my car w/o the spoiler as I wanted the lower profile one). I am in the process of replacing the rear valance set up right now and converting to the dual exhaust outlet valance and finishers. Everything bolts up nicely. All I need to do is then go to a muffler shop to change the pipes from the muffler to the finishers. I also de-badged my car- just easier to keep it clean that way. Be sure to post some photos when you are finished with the mods. I would love to retrofit the OEM dual exhaust rear valence onto my car. Even though the IC motor is often not running while I am driving ;) having the dual outlets would still look great! Rexracer Posted July 10, 2014 at 11:31 PM Report Share Posted July 10, 2014 at 11:31 PM Looks great! where/what wheels are these? What Continentals did you get? I liked the DWS's I had on my Acura TL so much, I got some DW's for my endurance race car.

I liked the DWS's I had on my Acura TL so much, I got some DW's for my endurance race car. Thanks! These are the OEM Ford Fusion wheels and tires that are an option for the non Energi/Hybrid Titanium model Fusion, you can see them on the Ford build a vehicle website. I bought this setup from the eBay seller in Michigan that always seems to have sets of new takeoffs. The tires are Continental SportContact, not sure of the exact model number. They are working very well, though. I am really impressed with the handling and braking improvement, yet no discernible increase in harshness and actually a decrease in road noise. I thought long and hard about getting some aftermarket 19's and there are some really nice and lightweight offerings out there but ultimately I decided to stay with OEM to avoid the offset change and need to go to an 8.5" width rim and 245 width tire. MarkFusion2014 Posted August 9, 2014 at 04:01 AM Report Share Posted August 9, 2014 at 04:01 AM Can you please provide update on MPG impact of the 19's? I am not sure which way to go yet 18's or 19's... I know the 19's will look better but don't totally want to kill the EV fun of the vehicle! Look forward to your update! Ruan DeWet Brits Posted August 10, 2014 at 03:43 AM Report Share Posted August 10, 2014 at 03:43 AM Wheels look great on the car. I changed my wheels to 18's however the dealership was unable to adjust the vehicle speed sensors. Has anyone else had any luck getting the vehilce speed sensors adjusted? It is a little hard to say for sure, but the hit seems to be about 2MPG. My average over about 5,000 miles was 64 and it seems to be settling to about 62 since the wheel change. Well worth it IMO, also whenever the time comes to replace these tires I will get a "green" replacement. Wheels look great on the car. I changed my wheels to 18's however the dealership was unable to adjust the vehicle speed sensors. Has anyone else had any luck getting the vehilce speed sensors adjusted? I have not tried to have this done, the offset seems to be less than 0.5MPH so I'm not worried about it.

jza80 Posted August 29, 2014 at 06:08 PM Author Report Share Posted August 29, 2014 at 06:08 PM I am targeting 35-36psi now. How about your car? I see you also have the same wheels.
Mjasim Posted August 30, 2014 at 07:36 AM Report Share Posted August 30, 2014 at 07:36 AM I'm targeting about the same 35psi. They feel good at that pressure so far. As for the wheels, I am loving the way they look and drive. They definitely have more traction and the road noise is still super quiet. HotLap Posted September 9, 2014 at 07:01 PM Report Share Posted September 9, 2014 at 07:01 PM Look great!! I just ordered the same wheels from Detroit Tire and Wheels (same place you got yours I think). Anyway, I have the tri-color white and was going to go with chrome, but after I had the windows tinted I decided to go with same wheels in the black chrome. Unfortunately, it's going to take 5 weeks for delivery but at least the windows are tinted now so nobody can see me driving with the weinie 17's :) They use a new "black chrome" process called PVD (or similar) and it is both lighter and more durable (5 yr warranty). Also a much green friendly process...

HotLap Posted September 15, 2014 at 06:27 PM Report Share Posted September 15, 2014 at 06:27 PM Will do the wait is killing me :) In the meantime I just had solar installed on my home, so I can now charge my Energi at a very low price :) I paid 8.4 cents per kWh on a pre-pay power production contract. HotLap Posted September 15, 2014 at 06:31 PM Report Share Posted September 15, 2014 at 06:31 PM Thx jz80, I was torn between getting them in the stock silver (could have had them now) or the chrome or black chrome. I'm still unsure about the chrome vs black chrome...the car has nice subtle chrome touches that chrome would go well with and I think the overall look would be more upscale/elegant; however, with the tinted windows I think the black chrome will go well and give it more of a custom wheel look. If I don't like the black chrome, I'm sure I can sell and get the chrome ones...
