snedecr Posted June 12, 2014 at 02:46 PM Report Share Posted June 12, 2014 at 02:46 PM Well for the first time, I did it. Since purchasing my 2013 Fusion Energi on March 28, 2014, I have religiously plugged it in every day. I work about 16 miles from home, and can't charge at work, so I commute to work on electric, and commute home some on electric and some on hybrid gas/electric, depending on how many trips to meetings I have during the day. But today, I walked out of the house at 5:15 AM to find no plug in the charge port! OH NO! I had forgotten to plug my baby in to charge overnight! I cringed as the ICE started up immediately as I pushed the start button (first time I had EVER heard that!) I growled every time I heard the ICE come on in hybrid mode as I commuted to work. The bright spot is that it did give me a new data point. I had been tracking my commutes to work to compare routes, and this route typically cost me about 31 cents in electricity (3.4 kWh) to get there in the mornings. This morning, I snapped the summary page and entered the data in the spreadsheet (0.3 gallons of gas) and found that it cost me 98 cents to get to work today! So, at least it made me feel better about why I bought a plug in hybrid vehicle. Please forgive me, oh Fusion!
howardbc Posted June 12, 2014 at 05:09 PM Report Share Posted June 12, 2014 at 05:09 PM Don't feel badly. You're not the only one who forgets to charge up their FFE. I remember when I first got the car, I was so nervous about sticking a live plug into it that I didn't do it for almost a week! Silly. Then it got to be such a ho-hum thing that I knew I might forget. So this is what I do: I made a good-sized sign with "Plug car in!!" and I leave right next to the last lamp I will turn off before I go to bed. So far, it has not failed me. I hope my humble suggestion might help.

I know exactly how you feel... nothing worse than walking into the garage and seeing the plug in the charger and NOT the car and you have to go somewhere. It is especially bad right now because I only have about 57 miles in range (according to My Ford Mobile) in hybrid mode... I know I need to put some fuel in the car but I just do not have any trips planned and do not plan to burn any gas. Love this car :yahoo:

howardbc Posted June 13, 2014 at 06:10 PM Report Share Posted June 13, 2014 at 06:10 PM Thanks, FormerFF. Yes, I'm just nervous around electricity, but I am definitely "over it" now with the FFE.

See, 16 miles divided by .3 gallons of gas = 53.3 MPG in CHARGE SUSTAINING MODE, and yet Ford just voluntarily fell on the sword and derated our cars to 38 MPG in charge sustaining mode which is ridiculous! easyv Posted June 14, 2014 at 02:11 PM Report Share Posted June 14, 2014 at 02:11 PM The only time I ever got down to 38MPG was when I took a long 12-hour roadtrip and was driving at 70-80MPH

Gigi Posted June 15, 2014 at 01:53 AM Report Share Posted June 15, 2014 at 01:53 AM (edited) I was away on a business trip and noticed a text from MyFordMobile saying that our Focus Electric had finished charging at 9:30 a.m. That being an odd time, I checked and found that my wife, who had forgotten to charge the Electric overnight, had driven our Energi to work. Her drive in to work was 91% EV - but her drive home was only 50% EV. Oh, the horror! Only 32 mpg for her 26 mile ride home when, if she had remembered, could have been 100% EV in the Electric she drives daily. How do you think I should approach her about being so wasteful? SteveEnergi Posted June 16, 2014 at 11:11 AM Report Share Posted June 16, 2014 at 11:11 AM Don't! It was a simple mistake and who would want to hear about such a frivolous oversight.
murphy Posted June 16, 2014 at 12:45 PM Report Share Posted June 16, 2014 at 12:45 PM +1 unless you want to hear a list of your mistakes. ;) meyersnole
Gigi Posted June 17, 2014 at 03:08 AM Report Share Posted June 17, 2014 at 03:08 AM Not in a million years! The Energi was supposed to be her car. After I bought the Electric, we decided to switch cars. I think she was just looking for an excuse to drive Gigi again while I was on the road.
