howardbc Posted June 4, 2014 at 04:28 PM Report Share Posted June 4, 2014 at 04:28 PM Saw this article this morning: http://www.greencarreports.com/news/1092490_nissan-to-launch-plug-in-hybrids-too-in-less-than-two-years Until all EVs have the battery range of a Tesla and/or there are as many EV charging stations as gas stations, it is a sad reality that a plug-in hybrid is more practical than a short-range EV - at least for anyone who might want to take a road trip. For most errands around town, the Leaf would be fine, but I occasionally have to take longer drives. I can't afford to have 2 cars. Fusion-SarasotaBay Posted July 30, 2014 at 12:33 PM Report Share Posted July 30, 2014 at 12:33 PM Some cities are taking a more aggressive approach to install free 240v charging stations to help encourage purchase of EVs or PHEVs. As we too only have 1 car, we chose the Fusion Energi PHEV as we mostly drive short distances (<20 miles) around town, but need to be able to go on longer drives. Here in Sarasota, FL there are 4 free charging sites (city parking lots/garages) with a total of 7 charging slots all within 1 mile of our condo. Doing a quick check of Sarasota it shows 13 on the Chargepoint network, don't know if those are the same ones you mention - but here is their site to check for charging points near any location: https://na.chargepoint.com/charge_point
CombsAuthor Posted August 6, 2014 at 03:37 AM Report Share Posted August 6, 2014 at 03:37 AM It's great to see that others are adopting the world that everyone in this forum already enjoys. If you are willing to compromise the trunk space, it is a great technology. We have 3,200 miles on ours and have only filled it once. howardbc Posted August 6, 2014 at 03:58 AM Author Report Share Posted August 6, 2014 at 03:58 AM I got an email from EDTA this afternoon, advising that sales of plugins (including EVs and plugin hybrids) have gone up 96% in the last 12 months! I couldn't find the original email, but this says the same thing: http://pluginchicagometro.org/2014/08/number-evs-american-roads-increases-96-year/
rtshinn Posted August 7, 2014 at 12:43 PM Report Share Posted August 7, 2014 at 12:43 PM I'm waiting for a Ford Ranger sized 4x4 PHEV. I would buy that in a Net York Minute.
