smokewagon Posted May 9, 2014 at 03:01 PM Report Share Posted May 9, 2014 at 03:01 PM The last few days we have had temps in the 90's, so I started using the A\C for the first time. I noticed the engine block temp. guage rise. The car was in ev only mode and the ice not running. Why would it do this?Has anyone else noticed this? On another note the a\c seems to cool quite well, I am happy with it. I also like the feature that lowers all the windows when the car has been sitting in the hot sun. smokewagon
larryh Posted May 9, 2014 at 03:14 PM Report Share Posted May 9, 2014 at 03:14 PM (edited) The sensor for the car's engine temperature display is not really measuring the engine coolant temperature in EV mode. There is a separate cooling loop for climate control vs. the engine. The display is showing the temperature for the climate control loop. See the following post: http://www.fordfusionenergiforum.com/topic/1446-cold-weather-observations/?p=13029 Edited May 9, 2014 at 03:16 PM by larryh smokewagon

Russael Posted May 9, 2014 at 06:57 PM Report Share Posted May 9, 2014 at 06:57 PM How much did your gauge increase? Was it pretty substantial? If so... it kind of indicates that the electric heater was running for some bizarre reason.
smokewagon Posted May 9, 2014 at 08:51 PM Author Report Share Posted May 9, 2014 at 08:51 PM yes the indicator got above the lower line, i'm sure the heat was off. I'm still a little confused why a\c would heat to either cooling circuit? smokewagon
murphy Posted May 9, 2014 at 10:32 PM Report Share Posted May 9, 2014 at 10:32 PM An air conditioner has to get rid of the heat that it removed from the cabin air.Sending it to the radiator is one way to do it. smokewagon
Russael Posted May 9, 2014 at 11:15 PM Report Share Posted May 9, 2014 at 11:15 PM The A/C system is completely sealed and is a closed system. They usually put the condenser in front of the radiator (butted right up against it). So even if the heat from the condenser warmed the coolant in the radiator, the temperature gauge is in the closed loop part of the engine coolant, and there is no reason for the coolant to be circulating with the ICE off. Just seems weird that the coolant temp rose.
