dmackdaddy Posted May 7, 2014 at 03:13 PM Report Share Posted May 7, 2014 at 03:13 PM I thought it's supposed to take 7 hours on a regular home outlet @ 120v? Why is mine only taking 5 hours? I plug in when I get home but tell it to charge at 11PM when rates drop. I then get an email saying its done at 4AM. This makes it harder for me to decide on Level 2 charging at home, when I can get 12 miles or so in 2.5 hours. Anyone else seeing this? Was the 7 hours a conservative time specified by Ford? BTW, I am not complaining :)
murphy Posted May 7, 2014 at 03:47 PM Report Share Posted May 7, 2014 at 03:47 PM The estimates are conservative. The 240 volt estimate is 2.5 hours but I am always done at slightly over 2 hours. It will depend on the wiring to the receptacle that you are using. Heavier wire will have less voltage drop allowing more energy to make it to the car instead of heating the wire inside of the walls. smokewagon Posted May 9, 2014 at 06:39 PM Report Share Posted May 9, 2014 at 06:39 PM I am seeing 5 hours 20 minutes with the 120v charger and 2 hours 10 minutes with the 240v. smokewagon

When my car is charging in the morning while I'm at work, I log into the chargepoint site and view progress to estimate when it will finish... will have to snap a screenshot of the charging progress and post one day next week, as the current sometimes gets to the 3.3kW but often moves around up and down between 3.0kW-3.3kW. I don't know what make it vary like that (I bet some on here do) but some days on that same charger will be done in 2 hours, and have taken as long as 2:13 on other days. ctwomey Posted May 11, 2014 at 02:50 AM Report Share Posted May 11, 2014 at 02:50 AM Yeah, I tend to get 5.5 ish hours to full on 120 at home too. the predicted time (i.e., at MyFord) is longer than that. Glad to see "conservative" estimates in marketing literature for a change...

Screenshot of the charging progress from this morning, the rate of charge tends to vary between 3.0-3.3kW while charging... I guess that's normal as the HVB temp fluctuates, or other factors? larryh Posted May 13, 2014 at 10:59 PM Report Share Posted May 13, 2014 at 10:59 PM When I measure the power on the electric meter for the 240 V charger when charging the HVB, it is usually a fairly steady 3.425 kW. The charger inside the car consumes a steady 3.324 kW of power. The car's electronics and fans consume the remaining 100 watts of power. The power consumed by the electronics and fans vary by a small amount.
shaggy314 Posted May 14, 2014 at 09:43 PM Report Share Posted May 14, 2014 at 09:43 PM I average 3-4 miles per hour 110 and 9-11 mph on 220. It si only replacing what you use so, it will vary. I take the same trip to/from work and depending how I drive and the temperature, I use more/less electricity. If you use ChargePoin+ stations, their web site allows live monitoring of the output and over the 2ish hours I'll see it fluctuate between 2.99 to 3.22 kW.
