vett93 Posted May 5, 2014 at 05:21 PM Report Share Posted May 5, 2014 at 05:21 PM Have you guys noticed that the ANC generates noises when the car is idle? I found the following article describing ANC: http://www.at.ford.com/news/cn/Pages/2013%20Ford%20Fusion%20Hybrid%20Active%20Noise%20Cancellation%20Helps%20Deliver%20Quiet%20Fuel%20Efficiency.aspx While the design can be useful to cancel noises from the ICE, it seems to detect noises from outside of the car as well and sends "counter" signal. The results are very undesirable. As an example, I drive and stop at a traffic light. Then other cars or motorcycles with loud exhaust come near by. The microphones seem to pick up these exhaust noises and think they are from Fusion's ICE. Then the ANC generates its own noises to counter. But it does correct the outside noises because the locations are not the same with the ICE. So it actually makes things worse.
blars Posted May 5, 2014 at 06:35 PM Report Share Posted May 5, 2014 at 06:35 PM Did it kind of sound like the windshield was rattling? I've noticed twice now where I've had pickups with loud exhaust be next to me that seemed to make the windshield buzz or rattle (at least I assumed it was the windshield). I had assumed it had hit some resonant frequency. Does it sound like the same thing that's happening to you?
vett93 Posted May 5, 2014 at 07:16 PM Author Report Share Posted May 5, 2014 at 07:16 PM It sounds like a subwoofer is malfunctioning. It can be like windshield is rattling. I have a few subwoofers in my house for home theater (3db at 80Hz) and audio (3db at 40Hz) applications. When ANC comes on unintentionally, it sounds like the subwoofer is triggered to generate low freq. noises.
blars Posted May 5, 2014 at 08:02 PM Report Share Posted May 5, 2014 at 08:02 PM That must be what it is then...I've had no problem with it outside of those two instances. Usually it just sounds like I'm sitting in a car that's turned off. It's definitely a startling sound.
musicmafia Posted May 8, 2014 at 08:43 PM Report Share Posted May 8, 2014 at 08:43 PM I plan on disabling the ANC feature and installing an additional amp and sub in the trunk....from what ive read so far the easiest way seems to be disabling the microphones under headliner front and rear (3 or 4 mics?)....there is a thread on the hybrid forum describing this but I cant seem to paste anything here....anyone here disabled ANC yet?
