Hardp Posted April 14, 2014 at 02:04 PM Report Share Posted April 14, 2014 at 02:04 PM I was away for 7 weeks so, before I left, I hooked the 12 V battery up to a battery tender. I used the battery connection under the hood and when I returned the battery was dead. Does a battery tender only work if it's hooked up to the battery itself? Russael Posted April 14, 2014 at 02:17 PM Report Share Posted April 14, 2014 at 02:17 PM I don't think so, so long as it has a live 12V connection, it should continue to float/charge the battery. I use a tender for my truck when its stored over the winter. Mine is a very small 1 or 2A model. Was it still red when you checked your tender or did it have green, or no lights at all? murphy Posted April 14, 2014 at 02:46 PM Report Share Posted April 14, 2014 at 02:46 PM Was the battery fully charged before you hooked up the Tender? A battery tender is not a battery charger. It will maintain a fully charged battery IF there is no load on the battery. It will not charge a battery or maintain a battery that has a load on it. I prefer a regular battery charger that switches to maintenance mode when the battery is fully charged.
