Neil Posted March 7, 2014 at 06:33 PM Report Share Posted March 7, 2014 at 06:33 PM I plugged in the Energi last night and the charging ring did not come on. I tried unplugging it several times and nothing worked. So this morning I queried the car from My Ford Mobile and it said the car was unplugged. I went out to the car and it had just started to charge. It seemed like the query triggered the car to start charging. Has anyone had this experience? Any idea why it would not charge initially? I got to work this morning and pluged it in and it started charging as normal.
jeff_h Posted March 7, 2014 at 06:40 PM Report Share Posted March 7, 2014 at 06:40 PM (edited) Yes that happened to her car twice, in the first month of ownership, as there is a thread about it here somewhere. I can't say for sure, but we *think* that the common condition on both occasions was that she opened the driver's door before shutting the car off. We never did prove it but it seems like it may have been a factor, strange as it may be. On the second time it had been a week or two after the first and easy to recall the first time, so she got back in the car and started it up and then shut it back down and then it charged right up. Ever since then I listen for my 240V charger to kick on to make sure. Like my PC that sometimes encounters unexpected and unexplained issues that requires a reboot, a car managed more and more by software sometimes also needs a reboot, I guess. murphy Posted March 7, 2014 at 06:40 PM Report Share Posted March 7, 2014 at 06:40 PM Are you connecting the charger to the AC power before the plug is connected to the car?If done the other way, car first and then AC, there will be a random delay before charging starts. This is indistinguishable from power coming back on after a power failure. The random delay is so all chargers don't come on at the same time which could overload the electric utility.
