dnorris78 Posted March 6, 2014 at 02:11 AM Report Share Posted March 6, 2014 at 02:11 AM I am planning a couple spring road trips ... Can anyone offer any tips for extracting the best economy in my Energi on long road trips? One trip will be 500 miles one way and the second 800 miles one way. jeff_h Posted March 6, 2014 at 02:15 AM Report Share Posted March 6, 2014 at 02:15 AM I just drove down to Myrtle Beach a few weeks ago, about 400 miles. I use ECO cruise and set the cruise on 65 MPH going down there, think I got 42 MPG... set it to 68 MPH on the way back and got 40.. so set the cruise and enjoy the ride, the higher the speed the lower the MPG, I was in no hurry so tried to get decent MPG and was happy with it. meyersnole Posted March 6, 2014 at 02:33 AM Report Share Posted March 6, 2014 at 02:33 AM Just to reiterate what jeff_h stated, speed kills mileage (just as it does in a normal gas powered vehicle). Climate control will also have an impact. HOWEVER, you have to be impressed with a car this size that gets the mileage it does even when zipping down the road and blasting the climate control. Easy tips to follow though... If you hit the highway with charge in your battery, push the EV later button to save your charge... you will go through your charge very quickly at speed. If you stop for gas or a burger, the car will go back to EV Auto... so remember to hit the EV later again as you hit the ramp for the expressway. Use your cruise control, especially if you are in the mountains as it will help you capture the energy on the decent. jeff_h
Juice Posted March 12, 2014 at 04:42 AM Report Share Posted March 12, 2014 at 04:42 AM Enjoy the drive. If you don't need the interstate, avoid it. As the others said, speed kills mpg. You could always hug up behind a semi and catch a draft. My wife gets pi$$ed when I do it, but it does help!
bjorn Posted March 13, 2014 at 02:01 AM Report Share Posted March 13, 2014 at 02:01 AM I'm finding I'm getting more or less the same mileage on the Energi on road trips (no charging) as I did on my '04 Prius. Not bad for a much nicer riding - and looking - car!
bjorn Posted March 13, 2014 at 02:06 AM Report Share Posted March 13, 2014 at 02:06 AM On my last trip, I averages 47.9 MPG over180 miles. Elevation drop was 2500'' which helped, but I usually get 45MPG or better.
