Kybuck Posted March 1, 2014 at 03:13 AM Report Share Posted March 1, 2014 at 03:13 AM 2014 SE (i.e. non-Sony radio)... it seems the AM Radio is noticeably quieter than FM. I've tried multiple stations, and it seems to be consistent. I always have to turn the volume up when switching to AM and then back down when switching back to FM. Anyone else notice this? Russael Posted March 1, 2014 at 03:24 PM Report Share Posted March 1, 2014 at 03:24 PM I've noticed that on nearly all radios including portable, walkmans, car stereos, and even home stereos. AM radio is almost always quieter even when locked on the strongest stations. Of course, the weaker ones are even quieter.
Kybuck Posted March 1, 2014 at 04:42 PM Author Report Share Posted March 1, 2014 at 04:42 PM (edited) My last car (GM) must have internally compensated or boosted the AM signal, because I'd switch from AM to FM all the time without a discernable difference. It's amazing how quickly we can get used to (or begin to expect) even the smallest features in a vehicle. May not notice it day-to-day, but as soon as you get in a vehicle that's different, it stands out so much. DVDiva Posted March 8, 2014 at 06:25 PM Report Share Posted March 8, 2014 at 06:25 PM I've noticed the same thing - I don't know if it has to do with HD Radio (I did notice that the AM radio stations have a lot more high frequencies than the normal analog AM reception), but I guess the volume thing is just something we have to live with. Kybuck Posted March 9, 2014 at 03:49 PM Author Report Share Posted March 9, 2014 at 03:49 PM My SE doesn't have HD radio, so it isn't just the HD radio causing the issue.
