Gigi Posted February 26, 2014 at 04:24 AM Report Share Posted February 26, 2014 at 04:24 AM (edited) We bought a Fusion Energi in November to replace my wife’s car. I became so enamored with driving on electricity that in January, I leased a Focus Electric and parked my gas guzzling F-150. Now, my wife is driving the Electric for her 54 mile commute and I am driving the Energi for my 26 mile commute. It was a hassle for her to plug in the Energi at work. I don’t mind plugging in at the office. With this arrangement, we are able to maximize EV miles. For the last three weeks, we have driven the two cars a total of about 1,500 miles, only 108 of which have been on gasoline. More than 93% of our miles for the two cars in the past three weeks have been EV miles.Does anybody else have a PHEV + EV household? jeff_h Posted February 26, 2014 at 12:34 PM Report Share Posted February 26, 2014 at 12:34 PM We thought about a Focus Electric for her car, but with a range of about 75 miles there would be days now and then where she would have more than with the daily runaround for various things, so she got the Energi and she uses only EV about 10% of days and most days goes 30-50 miles. We are happy for now with two PHEV, and that 240V charger in the garage is staying busy as is.
Gigi Posted February 26, 2014 at 02:54 PM Author Report Share Posted February 26, 2014 at 02:54 PM I considered buying a second PHEV as you did, Jeff. I was looking at the C-Max, but I just couldn't get over what seems to me its confusing and busy front end. It's a very practical car, but I just couldn't get past its looks. With incentives and tax credits, leasing the Focus EV was less expensive to acquire than the C-Max and it is less expensive to drive. It also handles better and is more fun to drive than the C-Max. If the C-Max had looked more like the 2015 Focus, I might have gotten it. So far, I'm very happy with the Focus Electric (when I get to drive it). Whenever the Electric's range looks dodgy for my wife's needs on a given day, I drive it and she takes the Fusion Energi. If the Electric's range is a problem for the both of us, she takes the Energi and I drive the F150.
seadiel Posted February 26, 2014 at 05:17 PM Report Share Posted February 26, 2014 at 05:17 PM I consider the Focus Electric but the problems I found while visiting the Focus Electric forums, caused me to stay away. When I last checked a few weeks ago it appeared some people either got ford to buy back there focus electrics or they got a fix for the "Stop Safety Now" error. I still have little ones so currently we have to keep our SUV. I would consider the Mitsubishi Outlander EV, if it ever comes to the USA.
