mmmhmmmm Posted February 25, 2014 at 01:01 AM Report Share Posted February 25, 2014 at 01:01 AM I've changed driving habits dramatically since buying the Fusion Energi and routinely sloth around at 55 mph (or whatever the speed limit) milking the eco from this purchase. Cars do stack up behind me though. Today some gentleman flipped me off as he raced by in his F-350. That cracked me up! People can be so impatient. Me included. When I arrived at the house my trip stats reported 65.4 mpg. dnorris78, meyersnole and jeff_h
jeff_h Posted February 25, 2014 at 01:19 AM Report Share Posted February 25, 2014 at 01:19 AM We have had a couple threads on the hybrid forum about this, with many posts about impatient drivers and speed on by as they race to the next stop light... and I've found that by driving smoothly (not necessarily slowly, but looking forward and anticipating upcoming traffic) you end up keeping the same pace (or better) as speed racer that made it quickly to the stop light. Rexracer Posted February 25, 2014 at 07:24 PM Report Share Posted February 25, 2014 at 07:24 PM As an impatient driver, I feel for those stuck behind me, but now that I am trying to get every MPG, well the world can have some patience. I do drive at least the speed limit, and move over out of the way as much as possible. To be conservative on the fuel, you also have to be considerate to the world around you. I have significantly changed my driving habits as well to gain the most efficiency. My feelings on the subject are just as they were when I was the one who wanted to blow by, as long as you are poking along in the right lane (not the passing lane) you should not be making anyone upset. I have never taken issue with someone doing the speed limit in the right lane (although I have taken issue with some doing 20 miles under, distracted). Fat Fusion Posted February 27, 2014 at 12:57 AM Report Share Posted February 27, 2014 at 12:57 AM People should never be "stuck" behind you. If there's more than one lane, no big deal. On a single lane each direction you have an obligation to pull over and let others by. That's the CA law and the only courteous way to drive. Even in the HOV lane, I'll routinely pull over into the "fast" lane and let people pass. That would have NEVER happened driving the Boss 302! Gigi Posted February 27, 2014 at 04:16 AM Report Share Posted February 27, 2014 at 04:16 AM Do you know the definition of a nano-second? It's the amount of time between when your light turns green and the person behind you honks. At least, that's about how long it takes here in Atlanta, land of impatient drivers. Fat Fusion Posted February 27, 2014 at 05:12 AM Report Share Posted February 27, 2014 at 05:12 AM I tend to go by the one second rule.

Even in the HOV lane, I'll routinely pull over into the "fast" lane and let people pass. That would have NEVER happened driving the Boss 302! In Oregon, on a single lane each direction I can count on one hand the number of times people have pulled over and let people go by, no matter what the law is. In WA everyone but semi's drive in the left most lane and seem un-cable of moving over, ever, EVER.... Do you know the definition of a nano-second? It's the amount of time between when your light turns green and the person behind you honks. At least, that's about how long it takes here in Atlanta, land of impatient drivers. I have been the 3-4th car back and had to honk after 5-10 seconds of sitting at a green light, the people in front of me being "to nice" to ever honk at someone not going on a green light... Mikesan Posted December 5, 2014 at 06:39 AM Report Share Posted December 5, 2014 at 06:39 AM My thoughts are that you should prioritize other drivers before your own fuel efficiency. Save when you can, but don't be the slob who makes everyone wait for you. Gawd, those drivers piss me off. Doug0716

HotLap Posted December 5, 2014 at 06:33 PM Report Share Posted December 5, 2014 at 06:33 PM Well said Rexracer/Meyersnole/FatFusion, I too have changed my driving habits and not just in the FFE, I find myself driving more "gently" in the Carrera as well. And I do agree that if you are holding up a long line of drivers, just take a few seconds and pull over and let them pass, much better than someone riding your rear bumper and giving you the one finger salute when the finally squeeze by you. I still have little patience for those going slower than the flow of traffic in the passing/fast lane, just not very considerate at all...IMO, folks are too self-centered (in general) these days and do not consider the consequences of their actions on others...what works for me is putting myself in the other fellas shoes... Mikesan Posted December 11, 2014 at 07:23 AM Report Share Posted December 11, 2014 at 07:23 AM I remember growing up in Maine in the late 70's/early 80's. Most highways and state roads were two lanes. You drove in the right lane and passed on the left. Everyone knew that and respected it. You learned how to build up speed before passing and to judge when to make that pass. Then I come to Calif with 4 and 5 lanes and everyone seems to pick a lane and plop their butts in it regardless of who they are holding up. HotLap Posted December 18, 2014 at 07:01 PM Report Share Posted December 18, 2014 at 07:01 PM LOL, Mikesan too true these days, makes you wonder what a driver is thinking when going slower than the flow of traffic in the fast lane and they keep getting tailgated/impatiently passed by other drivers...you'd think they'd get the hint, (that it's not everyone else being mean, but their driving behavior that is causing the issue), and move over...too many people lack the ability to look in the mirror these days and just blame everyone else for their problems.
