Neil Posted February 24, 2014 at 10:09 PM Report Share Posted February 24, 2014 at 10:09 PM (edited) I just took my car into the dealer for an oil change, and they said they put 6 quarts in, even though the owner's Manual says it only takes 4.5 quarts. I looked up the regular Fusion with the Ecoboost 2 liter engine, and it is listed as taking 5.7 quarts, but the Energi has the Atkinson Cycle 2 liter engine, which is listed as 4.5 quarts. When I talked to the dealer they said it was a misprint in the manual. Anyone? Edited February 24, 2014 at 10:11 PM by Neil
Eric4539 Posted February 24, 2014 at 10:49 PM Report Share Posted February 24, 2014 at 10:49 PM Hi Neil, I had my oil changed at my local Ford dealer and my Invoice says 5 quarts. I didn't ask if all 5 quarts went in.

However this chart also says 0W-20 which is known to be in error per the Ford Service rep on the forum. Have you checked the dipstick to see what the oil level is? mmmhmmmm Posted February 24, 2014 at 11:52 PM Report Share Posted February 24, 2014 at 11:52 PM I changed my oil and filter for the first time this weekend and can confirm that the correct amount is 4.5 quarts.I just checked the dipstick again to be doubly certain. jeff_h
mmmhmmmm Posted February 24, 2014 at 11:53 PM Report Share Posted February 24, 2014 at 11:53 PM If your vehicle is 1.5 quarts over filled be very careful with it and get that excess oil out ASAP. jeff_h
Neil Posted February 25, 2014 at 02:17 PM Author Report Share Posted February 25, 2014 at 02:17 PM The Dealer called me this morning. He said he looked into it and I'm right that the 2013 Energi only takes 4.7 quarts. He said he checked with the tech who actually serviced the car and they said they only put 5 quarts in. Where the misunderstanding came from was it changed for the 2013 model year - previous model years took 5.7, he said. I didn't have the heart to tell him that 2013 is the first model year for the Energi, and the correct amount is 4.5, not 4.7. Regardless, I checked the oil level yesterday after leaving the dealership and it is right at the full level, so I got lucky. I'm guessing an extra 1/2 quart won't make a difference. murphy Posted February 25, 2014 at 02:22 PM Report Share Posted February 25, 2014 at 02:22 PM Did you let the car sit for at least 15 minutes before you checked the oil level so the oil in the upper passages could drain back down?
Neil Posted February 25, 2014 at 02:32 PM Author Report Share Posted February 25, 2014 at 02:32 PM Did you let the car sit for at least 15 minutes before you checked the oil level so the oil in the upper passages could drain back down? Good tip - yes, it sat in the parking garage for a couple of hours before I checked it. One other thing that kind of bothers me is it states on the receipt that they reset the Oil Life indicator, but it wasn't reset - It was still at 54%, just like when I brought it into the dealership. That is no big deal (I reset it myself), but it makes me wonder if they really rotated the tires. It says on the receipt they did, but obviously the receipt doesn't accurately reflect what they did - it says they put 6 quarts of oil in, they only put 5 in. it says they reset the oil life indicator, they didn't. It says they updated the Sync software, but it's at the same REV level as when I brought it in. How do I know if they even changed the oil Filter?
