SteveEnergi Posted January 31, 2014 at 02:49 PM Report Share Posted January 31, 2014 at 02:49 PM Has anyone used a car wash? I really want to get all of the salt out from under the car but I'm a little leery of the high powered spray and its affect? I know the car components should pretty much be protected but wanted to alleviate my worries by making this post. Thanks,Steve
Eric4539 Posted January 31, 2014 at 05:28 PM Report Share Posted January 31, 2014 at 05:28 PM I use an automatic car wash all the time. I suppose not all car wash facilities function the same way. My dealer hand washes my car after each visit and I can tell you that the automatic car wash does a much better job of cleaning! I haven't experienced any problems due to the automatic car wash that I use.
Russael Posted January 31, 2014 at 05:37 PM Report Share Posted January 31, 2014 at 05:37 PM I have not yet used an automatic car wash with my Fusion. For the time being, I just take it to a self-serve one and spray it all off with soap, and then rinse it (no touch). It doesn't get it clean, but it does take the corrosive salt off of it. I'm trying to avoid an auto wash because those are prone to introducing swirl marks to vehicle paint much faster than handwashing. I'm also thinking that the auto wash will rip my door badging off. Besides, the weather here in MI sucks so much right now that it's virtually pointless to wash a car since it'll be dirty again the next day. :)
SteveEnergi Posted January 31, 2014 at 05:53 PM Author Report Share Posted January 31, 2014 at 05:53 PM I'm mainly concerned with getting the salt out from under the car, which is why a hand wash isn't relevant this time of year for me. Eric, do you get the "under car spray" option? I'm sure the car will be fine, but...
Eric4539 Posted January 31, 2014 at 06:11 PM Report Share Posted January 31, 2014 at 06:11 PM Hey SteveEnergi, Yes, I do get the "undercarriage spray" only because it is included in all washes. In California they do not use salt on the roads in snowy areas. Where I live it doesn't snow but the road grime is bad enough; lots of oily stuff on the roads. Below is the link to the particular carwash that is very popular in my area. http://www.primeshine.com/wash-programs.html
SteveEnergi Posted January 31, 2014 at 06:26 PM Author Report Share Posted January 31, 2014 at 06:26 PM Thank you. They use so much salt around here, you can taste it on your lips when you're walking on the sidewalks.
meyersnole Posted January 31, 2014 at 08:39 PM Report Share Posted January 31, 2014 at 08:39 PM I also use an automatic wash during the Winter, even though it is true that you are risking your badging and swirl marks (much more noticeable on darker color cars). Sorry Russael, do not agree that it is pointless to wash because it gets dirty that same day. You should probably wash your car at least every 3 to 4 weeks to keep the contaminants from damaging the paint (worse then the swirl marks). It was more of a complaint about the weather than keeping the car clean. I am pretty obsessive at keeping it pristine, but this winter has made it impossible so far. After all, I bought this and want it lasting forever. :)

Just washed her car a couple hours ago, is actually still shiny blue once you get all that salt off.

My car has been in the garage since Monday (the day it was washed) because we had snow on Tuesday and the roads are full of salt and sand. willsyaya57 Posted February 1, 2014 at 02:32 AM Report Share Posted February 1, 2014 at 02:32 AM I have a power washer that I plan to use with the "delicate" or lowest pressure nozzle to keep mine clean. Of course that will be after we thaw out. Does anyone else use a power washer and have advice for me?
chancelperry Posted February 3, 2014 at 06:27 AM Report Share Posted February 3, 2014 at 06:27 AM I NEVER will use a brush containing automatic car wash after my Camry. After 6 years and multiple pass throughs of automatics, the clear coat starts to fade and deep scratches from brushes not being clean. I tried clay bar and waxing to get back my color but failed. I will only use a touch less car wash and finish by using a microfiber towel. To each his own I guess!
Zman11 Posted February 25, 2014 at 08:28 AM Report Share Posted February 25, 2014 at 08:28 AM If you are planning to use an automatic car wash you should make sure you have the windshield wiper stalk set to off. If set to "intermitent" it will activate when it gets wet. Not a good thing with the rotating brushes. I always worry that the person that vacuums the car accidentally touches the stalk. jeff_h
Rexracer Posted February 25, 2014 at 07:42 PM Report Share Posted February 25, 2014 at 07:42 PM Isnt auto wipers an extra feature? I wanted it, but it was part of a package that wasnt avaliable. Or maybe it comes on all of them now?
Russael Posted February 25, 2014 at 10:47 PM Report Share Posted February 25, 2014 at 10:47 PM (edited) Rain Sensing wipers was a part of the Driver Assist package. I believe it is still a part of that feature group. Edited February 25, 2014 at 10:47 PM by Russael
