idaholion Posted January 23, 2014 at 10:48 PM Report Share Posted January 23, 2014 at 10:48 PM Bought a Fusion Energi, getting a Level 2 charger. Narrowed down to the Leviton EVB22-3PT , the Clipper Creek HCS-40 30 amp, the Clipper LCS-25 20 amp, and the EMW DIY unit. Decided to go with the Clipper 20 amp. Since the fusion can only pull 16, no reason to go with the higher amp clipper unit. Does anyone know of any reason to go with a higher amp unit for my current car? (sorry, bad pun) I know the justification that "If you get a car that takes higher amps later, you can use the unit for that" but that scenario won't be for another 6-8 years for me. A lot can change in that time. Also, anyone had any particularly good or bad feedback on the Clipper units?I was hoping to use the $50 off mentioned in another forum listing, but that offer has expired. You can go all the way through, get the email telling you that you have a discount code, but the link to use that code has expired, apparently. Anyone know of any existing discounts out there? jeff_h Posted January 23, 2014 at 11:43 PM Report Share Posted January 23, 2014 at 11:43 PM (edited) I thought the reason that it was a LCS-25 was that it was 25 Amp? Though I may be misunderstanding the ratings... fact sheet on that one is here: http://www.clippercreek.com/uploads/ClipperCreek%20-%20LCS-25_v2.pdf We bought one of these for my M-I-L so my wife can charge while there (is crosstown so she visits regularly) and for $495 I think it's a good deal and has worked great. idaholion Posted January 24, 2014 at 12:02 AM Author Report Share Posted January 24, 2014 at 12:02 AM Contradictory fact sheets. The one I was looking at was herehttp://www.clippercreek.com/store/product/charging-station-lcs-25-with-holster/which shows it as a 20 Amp. But yours shows it as 25. And the HCS 40 is a 30 amp Did you get your LCS-25 for $495 recently? Did you get it from clipper directly? Site now shows $514, and then another $30 for shipping, even though it shows here as a $495. http://www.clippercreek.com/uploads/
jeff_h Posted January 24, 2014 at 12:07 AM Report Share Posted January 24, 2014 at 12:07 AM Hmmm after I wrote the above I looked at the overall garage page ( http://www.clippercreek.com/store/product-category/all-products/in-the-garage/ ) and it says 20A for that model, but looks like the fact sheet says 25A...again I'm probably missing something in the terminology. In any case, we bought the LCS-25 for $495 sometime last summer, bought it directly from Clipper Creek. IIRC the turnaround was pretty quick and it was delivered about 5 days after I ordered. They may have adjusted their prices a bit since last summer I guess and just not updated all places on their site?
murphy Posted January 24, 2014 at 12:08 AM Report Share Posted January 24, 2014 at 12:08 AM I thought the reason that it was a LCS-25 was that it was 25 Amp? Though I may be misunderstanding the ratings. It has to be installed on a 25 amp circuit but the specs say it puts out almost 5 kW.5kW divided by 240 volts is 20.8 amps. That's too much for a 20 amp circuit. jeff_h
idaholion Posted January 24, 2014 at 12:10 AM Author Report Share Posted January 24, 2014 at 12:10 AM Found the $495 unit. The $514 includes the holster.
Eric4539 Posted January 24, 2014 at 03:22 AM Report Share Posted January 24, 2014 at 03:22 AM I have the LCS-25 and I have no complaints at all. The main reason I bought the Clipper is because it has a 25 foot cord and I needed the longer cord. It is smaller than other units and now that I have it I really like the compact size. The other unit I was considering was larger and it had an 18 foot cord which was too short for me. I don't think you would go wrong with any 240v charger; everyone that has purchased one likes the until they have. If looks matter to you there are other units that look cool and have more lights. Some have a holder for the charging head. For me price, size and cord length are the best features of the Clipper Creek unit.
