Gigi Posted January 17, 2014 at 04:59 AM Report Share Posted January 17, 2014 at 04:59 AM When I am going somewhere unfamiliar, I often add the address in the "Location" field of an appointment in Google Calendar. I have been looking for a way send that location to the navigation system. The Android Sync Destinations app doesn't allow me to paste an address into the destination field. While the PC Mapquest site allows sending a destination to Sync, the Android app does not. I found an app in the Google Play Store called Send to Car that allows sharing a destination with Sync from the Google Maps app. Going through the menus to add a destination to the navigation system or retyping an address into Sync Destinations is tedious. Bringing up an address in Google Maps and sharing it with Sync looks like it would be so much easier if the app actually works. Has anyone used this app? Gigi Posted January 17, 2014 at 05:14 AM Author Report Share Posted January 17, 2014 at 05:14 AM Lo and behold! After installing the app on my phone, I find that it shows up in the share list in my MapQuest app too!
mmmhmmmm Posted January 22, 2014 at 02:57 AM Report Share Posted January 22, 2014 at 02:57 AM Did you get it working? This is a great idea for an app. I have a similar need.
SD Diver Posted January 24, 2014 at 04:45 AM Report Share Posted January 24, 2014 at 04:45 AM When using Mapquest, it has the option to sent to car. Selecting it gives the option of OnStar and Sync. Works great.
Gigi Posted January 24, 2014 at 07:06 PM Author Report Share Posted January 24, 2014 at 07:06 PM Yep. It works. Send to Car shows up under the "send via" menu in Google Maps. The advantage to me is that when I bring up an address in Google Maps I can send it directly to Sync without having to do more typing on the navigation screen or to re-enter the address in Sync Destinations. Very convenient. The time it takes for Sync Services to send the address to the car's navigation system is a little slow, but I can live with that so long as I can avoid re=entering information I already have. Russael Posted January 24, 2014 at 07:20 PM Report Share Posted January 24, 2014 at 07:20 PM Does that 'send to sync' rely on the phone or some app within the phone? I have a very ancient, 2005 era Moto Razr and have never been able to get that to work. I hope to have a smartphone come June.

A smartphone is not required. My Motorola RAZR worked fine with my 2010 Fusion Hybrid in 2009.
Russael Posted January 24, 2014 at 08:54 PM Report Share Posted January 24, 2014 at 08:54 PM Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to work with mine. I've tried the 'send to car' feature a couple times and it never shows up in my navigation system.

I've tried the 'send to car' feature a couple times and it never shows up in my navigation system.I didn't have navigation in my 2010. And they were using Google maps back then instead of Mapquest. The destination was sent to the car and gave me voice turn by turn directions as I drove. I have navigation in my 2013 and I have not tried the Sync method of direction finding at all. Russael Posted January 24, 2014 at 09:15 PM Report Share Posted January 24, 2014 at 09:15 PM I have navigation as well but was hoping to be able to set a destination in it through mapquest (easier than keying it in on the screen or doing it via voice commands). No such luck... yet.

Hey Russael, Make sure the phone connected to SYNC is the same mobile number registered to your account at: www.Support.Ford.comKeep in mind that this feature will only work if you have an active SYNC Services subscription on that account. If you're not sure, I'm happy to take a look! Just shoot me a PM with your mobile number and VIN. Kim
Russael Posted January 27, 2014 at 12:50 AM Report Share Posted January 27, 2014 at 12:50 AM Hi Kim, Yeah, my phone is linked on the Sync account. I'm not sure how this actually works... is Mapquest supposed to send some kind of text to the phone that the car reads? In essence, my phone is abysmally basic and old; as far from a smartphone as physically possible without it being a bag phone. Oddly enough, bluetooth works as well as text to speech in the car (that blew my mind that it worked), but I've tried the 'send to car' thing before and nothing happens. Unless it's saving a destination in some spot that I haven't looked in yet...

The Send to SYNC feature will only work if you have an active subscription to SYNC Services (I checked your account and it is active). When you're in the vehicle, you can press the VOICE COMMAND button and say SERVICES, then DIRECTIONS. Your vehicle will then ask if you'd like to use the destination that was sent to SYNC via MapQuest. Here is some more information on SYNC Services: http://support.ford.com/sync-technology/sync-services-overview-sync-myford-touch If you're able to connect to the system to make phone calls, but can't connect in order to utilize Turn-by-Turn directions, then there may be a compatibility issue with the phone. Let me know what you find. :) Kim
murphy Posted January 27, 2014 at 09:46 PM Report Share Posted January 27, 2014 at 09:46 PM That process worked fine in my 2010 Fusion Hybrid using a Motorola RAZR.
