I can't wait! The article also mentions that Ford will be announcing other in-vehicle technology features at this week's CES. It'll be interesting to see what they have on tap. mmmhmmmm and FusionEnergi
mmmhmmmm Posted January 22, 2014 at 03:00 AM Report Share Posted January 22, 2014 at 03:00 AM (edited) "will be eligible to download AppLink later this year." :happy feet: Settle down dancing pepper. There's some not so good news going around for My Ford Touchers. According to Wayne Cunningham with CNET: "Currently, Sync AppLink is not compatible with MyFord Touch, Ford's infotainment system. A Ford spokesperson confirmed to CNET that the upgrade would still not be compatible with MyFord Touch-equipped cars." http://ces.cnet.com/8301-35289_1-57616498/ford-adding-app-integration-to-3.4-million-cars/ and http://www.themustangnews.com/content/2014/01/2015-mustang-guinea-pig-for-next-generaion-sync-applink-system/#.Ut865BAo4kk Hey Ford rep! Could we get some clarification on this announcement? Is the update mentioned in the OP applicable to My Ford Touch systems? Is the update mentioned in the OP applicable to My Ford Touch systems? Hey mmmhmmmm, Although I've seen those articles, I can't confirm that the information is correct. This is the official announcement made by Ford: http://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2014/01/03/ford-offers-sync-applink-for-3-million-more-customers.html The article doesn't clarify whether or not MyFord Touch systems will be included in this update. As soon as I'm able to share some clarification on this, I'll be happy to do so. But since I can stream my iHeartRadio and other apps through Bluetooth, it's not really that big a deal It's my understanding that MFT is the top of the line Sync system. It would be nice to have AppLink. I hope they keep working on it for us early adopters. mmmhmmmm
willsyaya57 Posted January 27, 2014 at 01:08 PM Report Share Posted January 27, 2014 at 01:08 PM New car owner. I usually keep my iPhone in WiFi only mode, saving cellular data for little emergencies on the road. Will I need to keep my cellular data on when I am in my new car to keep all the functionality of MyFordTouch, and Sync, and all that? mmmhmmmm
Russael Posted January 27, 2014 at 01:33 PM Report Share Posted January 27, 2014 at 01:33 PM New car owner. I usually keep my iPhone in WiFi only mode, saving cellular data for little emergencies on the road. Will I need to keep my cellular data on when I am in my new car to keep all the functionality of MyFordTouch, and Sync, and all that? Nope. The car doesn't rely on your personal phone for internet service. It has its own built in 3G service for keeping in touch with MyFordMobile. That comes free with your car for 5 years. Dunno what the monthly/yearly rate is going to be once that runs out though. I haven't found pricing for that. Wifi hotspot functionality relies on a USB data dongle through a cellular carrier though. The car doesn't abuse its own internal connectivity for traditional internet service for your devices. Hi http, There's been quite a bit of feedback indicating that customers are interested in AppLink integration with MyFord Touch systems. Currently, Ford is focusing on making AppLink available to Gen 1 systems. I can't speculate on future updates, but when they are released, an announcement will be made here: http://boards.synccommunity.com/discussions/Welcome_to_SYNC_Owner_to_Owner/fordsyncmb?redirCnt=1&= New car owner. I usually keep my iPhone in WiFi only mode, saving cellular data for little emergencies on the road. Will I need to keep my cellular data on when I am in my new car to keep all the functionality of MyFordTouch, and Sync, and all that? Hello willsyaya57, Like Russael stated, the vehicle will connect to MyFord Mobile without using data from your phone. Mobile data will only be affected if you decide to use an app on your phone that utilizes internet to stream audio. If you're just streaming audio from your phone's library, it will be done via Bluetooth or a USB connection and will not affect your data plan. There are years worth of posts on Ford forums all over the place. Hopefully we'll see this soon! I don't expect Ford to admit this but I suspect attorneys behind this delay...
