Control of Gas vs Electric Switching Between Gas and Electric

When I'm in EV mode but I want to switch to gas/hybrid mode, how do I "force" that?  I know the manual says you can press the accelerator fully but I assume that is only when the car is stationary and in P.

 

I tried with the car in P going into EV mode and then pressing ok but nothing seemed to happen.  

 

Can you do it on the fly?

 

And once in gas/hybrid, assuming you have HVB power left, I assume you can switch back by going into Auto mode.

If you want to drive in hybrid mode regardless of the state of charge on the battery, just switch to EV Later mode using your EV button.  You can do that anytime, so long as you have miles left on the battery  That forces hybrid operation and will float the battery's charge the same way normal hybrid does, even though it doesn't show you on the battery icon itself.  The car will still cycle the engine on and off while in this mode though.  If you're looking to run the gas motor continuously, there isn't a mode for that.

Set the EV Mode to "EV Later".

...or turn on the front defrost by itself, I've found that in most cases that will make the ICE come on -- but using the EV button to set to 'EV Later' is the proper method.
