Led lights

I would like to change all my lights that use standard bulbs to Leds. Trunk, reverse lights, license plate lights, parking, ect.

It appears the light under the mirror is already an Led, but it would look better in white.

Anyone else already complete this?

What did you go with and why?

First is for the backup lights, second for the license plate lights. These came in a package of 10 - I'll eventually use them in the front for the parking lights. Nice bright white.

I followed a buddy's lead and picked up LED lights from eBay and am seriously impressed.

 

Front parking lights and license plate lights:

Changing the front parking lights requires removing the front fender which is very easy (instructions are in the owner's manual - nicely done Ford!). The process takes about a half an hour.

These wedges are bright white and look great installed.They have forward-facing lenses and work well in the front parking lights. They are bright enough that they illuminate the license plate despite having front-facing lenses.

I only used 4, but I feel like there are 8 or 10 left. Maybe the seller can't count.

 

Reverse lights:

These fit well, are bright, and were easy to install. Shift into reverse with these and it's wake up time for anybody behind me! These also have lenses. Awesome.

Trunk light:

This trunk light is ridiculous. It's a small 18-chip LED panel with 3M adhesive on the back. It comes with adapters to work a variety of light sockets. My car is in the shop so I haven't been able to install it yet. I tested it on my Escape's battery and happened to be looking at the damn thing when it lit. Not sure my retina has healed. Don't look directly into this sum bitch it's like the sun.

I found out that they have a much larger version. The one I bought has 18 led chips, this one has 48. BWAH!!! WTH!!! I'm going to have to try one. Maybe it will help heat the car when Go Times fail. (they better not though - that's one reason my car is in the shop.)

Puddle lights:

Since the puddle lights dim, you have to get "error free" bulbs (they have built in resistors). Otherwise you'll end up with annoying flashes instead of dimming. People may laugh and/or throw rotten vegetables. Not cool.

 

These bulbs dim nicely sucketh. One of them has gone bad after about a month. I put the 18 chip panels into the puddle lights instead and they are BRIGHT!

The puddle lights are SEALED with a weak adhesive. I was able to snap the clear cover off of one without breaking anything. The other was a pain in the ass. It takes patience to securely seat the LED bulbs in the sockets. I did it with a small screwdriver and carefully bent each contact pin around the metal ends of the led 'bulb' so that it is cradled in place tightly. I briefly considered soldering the bulb to each contact, but didn't. I used crazy glue and clear caulk to seal them back.

 

I put the 18 chip led panels I mentioned above in these puddle lights. They are super bright!

 

Light's I've missed.

Interior map lights: I might use the same 18-led panels I used in the trunk 

Vanity lights: not messing with them.

Headlights: not sure about changing these to LED yet, but I'd like to hear from anyone who has and what they used.

Update! The 18-chip LED panel I installed in my trunk is definitely bright, but flashes after about a minute or so. I didn't pay enough attention to the trunk light; maybe it dims. I'll try finding and connecting a 150 Ohm 3 Watt resistor as soon as I can find one and see if that fixes it. The panels are so bright it's worth figuring out!

They are bright and look great, but product was packaged poorly for shipping. The first one I installed in my camry was defective and I am still wairing to hear back from ijdmtoy.com customer service.

Do not place them in the trunk, it blew the number 1 fuse under the steering wheel, taking out all my interior lights. I used another fuse from under the hood(fuel something) and blew that one too. I had to go all over town trying to find these micro fuses which Ford parts department did not have. Autocraft, radio shack, chevy, nissan, walmart, advanced auto, and a few others had never seen them before. Finally found them and bought one set (5, 7.5, 10, 15, 20, 25)at pepboys $4, and another at autozone $6.

What a pain to get to the fuse box under the steering wheel.

Hope the fuse doesn't blow again. I got some other leds for the license plate and the trunk coming from a generous friend. I also bought a lower watt led bulb that I placed in the trunk. Sylvania Ledriving 168 bulb

It is better than stock, but hope the ones coming are brighter. The trunk needs it.

I am thinking of trying to put the plasma ones also in the front parking lights. Any thought on this would be appreciated.

No doubt! I blew a fuse pulling the trunk bulb. Be careful folks - changing fuses in the passenger compartment is tough!

LOL, mmmmhmmmm, I'd probably invest $$'s in a garage heater and skip the lights for now - your car is FROZEN :)  Reminds me of the time I first moved to Chicago and learned the hard way that they salt their roads in the Winter...was behind a dump truck on Lakeshore Drive and he started dumping his salt while doing 30mph!  I went into a self serve car wash to hose the salt off my car and the water froze as soon as it hit the car and formed icicles running off the car...

First upgrade is an easy one and makes a huge difference IMHO.  Bought these LED bulbs for the license plate lamps from SuperBrightLEDs

And here they are installed.  These strike the perfect balance to me...are not TOO bright, but much brighter than the standard bulbs.

I changed my puddle light recently and bought a pack of 10 led pannel lights on amazon for $15. They came and I sawed my puddle lights open and tried to fit one of the panels and it wouldnt fit :(. I had a road tripped planned the next day so under duress I went to my auto part store with my old bulb and found an led one @6.99 each :*( I got 2... They installed easy and are pretty bright but theres room to improve. I am planning to do the license plate light and reverse lights soon.

 

Heres my prob:

I want to update/ upgrade my very bland and standard looking fog light cover. I have an SE so all I get is a black cover to go over the part where my fog light is suppose to be. What can I do to put an LED strip or DRL on that? Is there something I can buy that does not have a fog light port in it?

 

Someone want to let me buy their old covers and lights?

You might try searching the internet for options.  If you like eBay, these LED running lights are available and many people have purchased them.  You could email the seller and inquire how these particular running lights are attached/wired.  Most of the LED running lights seem to be made for cars with the fog lights.  The price is right though!  Good luck!

Johnnyp, this place has LED DRL upgrade for Fusions with and without fog lights.  I have seen several others as well.

Daytime bright lights are crazy over priced, so I bought just one set. I probably could have modded mine, but I went easy this time. V4s are great and took a lot less time than me trying to modify it. The lights themselves are a bear to remove and I think the daytime bright lights are even more snug. Definitely recommend them though.

Hey Fusion Energi owners!! I just picked up my Fusion Energi and am in the process of doing some upgrades. In my browsing before I bought the car, I found a really nice pair of LED puddle lights for around $70 and now I can't find them. They were really bright and the company had 3 or 4 brightness levels. Does this ring a bell for anyone?

I decided to swap out some of my incandescent lights on the Fusion for LEDs.  I have swapped the license plate bulbs, reverse lights... and tried to do the trunk light.

These are incredible.  Mega bright (to the point where it starts messing with the auto-dimming mirror).  Satisfied.

Unfortunately, this caused my interior lighting fuse to blow.  I tried both bulbs, both blew the fuse within 3 seconds.  Not satisfied.  I believe the problem is the Canbus error corrector putting more than a 5w load on the system, causing the fuse to blow.

 

On the bright side (HAH!), I found that the trim panel that is under the steering wheel pops out and there's a nice hole in front of the fuse panel to reach through.  I tried the headstanding thing... and I'm not a small guy, so that flew for maybe 5 minutes before I got frustrated (and a headache).  :)
