bbwex Posted November 15, 2013 at 04:14 PM Report Share Posted November 15, 2013 at 04:14 PM I plugged in my car last night as I have every night since I bought the car. The blue lights did not come on around the recepticle, but the battery was pretty depleted so I did not worry about it, and the two green lights were on on the cord winder (I use the 120 V cord). This morning, the battery had not been charged at all. I had obviously started the car to check the battery charge level, so I turned it back off and plugged the cord in again, and the recepticle lights started right up, and I presume it is charging now, but I won't have time to wait for a full charge. I guess I pretty much did a reset of some sort by turning the car on and off, but other than picking up cues from Microsoft (close all of your windows and restart your computer), has anyone had this happen? bbwex Posted November 15, 2013 at 04:18 PM Author Report Share Posted November 15, 2013 at 04:18 PM OK, I have looked more carefully at the manual, and the solid green light on the "vehicle" end should have warned me that it was not charging. However, the question is why and did the act of starting and turning off the car do some sort of reset that I don't see in the manual? However, the question is why and did the act of starting and turning off the car do some sort of reset that I don't see in the manual?Yes, I have had this happen multiple times....usually at the most inopportune times. I have learned to make sure the light ring circulates when I plug the charger into the car and then make sure the charging light (yellow on my 240v charger) also begins to blink. If one of the two, or both, don't occur I get into the car, step on the brake and push the start button. The charging process has then started every time I have done that. I think the one thing to really watch for is to make sure the light ring circulates, which means the car has accepted your charger. I've learned to not just assume the car is charging or to just walk away after plugging the charger into the vehicle without watching what is occurring. You can always check My Ford Mobile too but I don't do that every time I plug in.
jeff_h Posted November 15, 2013 at 05:34 PM Report Share Posted November 15, 2013 at 05:34 PM (edited) We found that this is not isolated to the 120v charger, as our 240v charger can do this on occasion -- when it happens (probably occurred 3-4 times in 6 months) we disconnect charger, go in and start car and shut back off (as a reboot of sorts) and it's then fine. However one thing we've noted is that we *think* that each time it has happened my wife has opened the driver's door before shutting off the car and this may have been a factor (don't know if the OP may have done the same) but have not done testing on this to see if it does it every time - now she tries to make a point of shutting down before opening the door. I think that's exactly what happened to me about two days ago, looking back. I opened the door, then turned off the car. Car didn't charge at 220v
bbwex Posted November 15, 2013 at 10:48 PM Author Report Share Posted November 15, 2013 at 10:48 PM I appreciate the answers. I don't think I opened the door first, but it is not out of the realm of possibility. I shall be conscious of that in the future and report if I know I had a charging failure but had turned off the car before I touched the door. At least I know I am not unique in the overall problem. bbwex Posted November 24, 2013 at 10:43 PM Author Report Share Posted November 24, 2013 at 10:43 PM I have checked this out a bit further. I intentionally opened the car door before I turned off the car, and the car charged normally. It was clearly not a sequencing issue of opening the door at the wrong time. I suppose there are just some occassional quirks that we will all learn to live with.

DanR Posted September 24, 2023 at 10:36 PM Report Share Posted September 24, 2023 at 10:36 PM My 2016 Fusion Energi is doing this sort of thing for the last few weeks. Outlet (120V) does not get hot. When I plug in the charge adapter, the charge ring will light up and go through the sequence most of the time, but sometimes not. Sometimes it will go through the sequence and will light up the first quadrant LED but I know the charge level is higher than 25%. If this happens then the first quadrant LED will go off after a minute. When it charges normally I can hear a series of relay clicks just after plugging in the adapter and if I don't hear that "Click, click-click" I know that it is not going to charge. I had it to the dealer and they reported no error codes and are going to research it. I have tried unplugging, start the car, stop the car, and then try to charge again. Sometimes this works, mostly not.
