zetecfocus Posted October 27, 2013 at 03:55 AM Report Share Posted October 27, 2013 at 03:55 AM Hi, I've a 2013 Fusion. I love the car, but, being 6'4", I find that the driver's bucket is mounted too close to the center console. When I get into the car, I have to wriggle on over to the right of the seat to be comfortable, my right leg hitting up against the left side of the console. I am toying with the idea of moving the seat an inch or two over toward the left. I'd need to drill 4 new bolt holes, of course. Does anyone here know if the stock bolts are secured underneath the car by big washers and nuts? I imagine that they are. There's a tray covering that area, under the car, to help with aerodynamics. Guess I'd have to remove that? Probably answering my own questions (?!), but just wondering if anyone has any experience with this sort of modification. Thanks!! meyersnole Posted November 6, 2013 at 03:15 AM Report Share Posted November 6, 2013 at 03:15 AM Not sure I would be a fan of that type of modification. Airbags (no longer lines up the way it was designed), structural reinforcements, airbags in the door, etc. Major safety issues with that type of modification. You might want to rethink that. homa2001 Posted June 29, 2014 at 09:23 PM Report Share Posted June 29, 2014 at 09:23 PM I'd agree here. Doing this kind of mod is signing your own death warrant in case of a crash. Everything will be off and thus dangerous. I'm am 6'4" as well and I don't notice the problem with the right leg. On the contrary, I find it comforting to rest it on the padded insert of the center console (I guess this is why they've padded them and for that a great thanks to ford). I find a different issue though being 6'4". There isn't a single sedan I've been in so far that I don't rub at least a little bit against the ceiling. It only is a problem in cars with sliding roof, but still, I don't understand why it's so difficult to allow the seat to be lowered further? I understand there are short people out there, but that could be solved by mounting the seat lower and letting it just rise higher. Same issue with distance to pedals. If I pull the seat back enough for legs to be comfy, then I don't reach the steering wheel anymore even though it's fully extended. If I raise the seat back to compensate for "leg distance" then my head hits the ceiling. In other words, why it is so damn difficult to let the steering extend further out? I'd love to submit these comments to ford, but in all the surveys they have sent me after purchase, non talk about seating comfort, leave alone ask of my height and how I fit into the car. To be fair, this is not Ford's only issue. I had a Camry before with exactly same issues. I don't believe there is a car out there to satisfy me on this front.
