Dag Posted October 23, 2013 at 12:55 AM Report Share Posted October 23, 2013 at 12:55 AM Is there a adapter for the Energi to accept a level 3 charger?
JesseDiaz Posted October 30, 2013 at 05:34 AM Report Share Posted October 30, 2013 at 05:34 AM Im not even closer to anything resembling an electrician and I just purchased my 2014 Ford Fusion Energi just two weeks ago......But from what I can gather is that a level 3 charger is just one that take a 480v plug ( or hard wired ). As long as it has the j1772 connector, you should be good.....but most houses cant take th 480 plug?
timf Posted October 30, 2013 at 01:18 PM Report Share Posted October 30, 2013 at 01:18 PM Level 3 chargers use a direct connection to the battery in order to charge at a faster rate, bypassing the onboard charger. There are several different standards such as CHAdeMO and SAE Combined Charging, but they require a separate connector besides the J1772. The Fusion Energi does not have provisions for any of these charging methods. ctwomey
shaggy314 Posted October 30, 2013 at 06:25 PM Report Share Posted October 30, 2013 at 06:25 PM Now if you could find a way to adapt those dang free Tesla chargers to use J1772, you'll be rich. I'm guessing there's an electronic handshake you'd have to reverse engineer.
Dag Posted October 30, 2013 at 09:53 PM Author Report Share Posted October 30, 2013 at 09:53 PM There's a level three charger a couple miles from here, I wasn't sure if I could just find an adapter to charge a little quicker.
shaggy314 Posted October 31, 2013 at 06:57 PM Report Share Posted October 31, 2013 at 06:57 PM Nope just like the j1772 has a handshake protocol, so does Tesla, except they don't share the procedure and we don't pay for their free stations.
