ctoddrun Posted October 9, 2013 at 05:46 PM Report Share Posted October 9, 2013 at 05:46 PM Hi folks... new to the forum. Picked up a new 2013 Energi last weekend. Loving it so far - except for the warranty replacement of the 12v battery on purchase day +1. Hoping that doesn't prove to be an achilles heal, but chalking it up to the black car sitting on the lot in Texas heat for a while... We went with the PEH because of the rebates and the tax credit - probably not ideal candidates for the Energi otherwise, as we live in the boondocks and the first 30 miles of most of our trips is on the highway, but we're figuring out how to make best use of the EV mode, spending way less on gas than the '05 F150, and having fun in the process... it's my wife's car, officially, but I'm looking for an angle to steal it as often as possible :) Todd
Eric4539 Posted October 9, 2013 at 06:17 PM Report Share Posted October 9, 2013 at 06:17 PM Welcome, welcome, welcome! Your 12v battery replacement may have been due to the car sitting on the lot for months without ever being driven. Several on this forum have comments/complaints about the 12v battery but nothing that would point to a fault of the car itself. Although the first 30 miles of your drives are on highways you will learn the best way to maximize EV miles; especially if you have the chance to plug in at your destination(s). Since this is your wife's car either she lets you accompany her and lets you drive or you buy your own! :)

Our budget won't allow for another one - even though "my" car is an older Tahoe @ 15 MPG... (It used to be hers - I gave up the pickup so we could keep a third row for those times when the kids multiply for a trip to who knows where... Russael Posted October 9, 2013 at 07:35 PM Report Share Posted October 9, 2013 at 07:35 PM Welcome to the forum and welcome to the world of EV and superior gas mileage. :) I'm sure you'll learn how to finesse the car's EV modes to get the most out of your battery and the fuel you DO use. It's like driving a video game and I love it. Dag

Just save that battery charge until you are off of the highway and you'll really see the efficiency shine.

I always select EV Later when I get on the highway, unless I'm returning home and I know that I will make it with the battery range remaining. I really like what someone wrote some time back in one of the forums: Speed Kills... the battery range! The battery range is best at 40 to 45 mph.... at 60 and above is better to use the ICE. If you're trip doesn't have a non-highway portion greater than or equal to 22 miles, you may want to use the battery for the highway. That's how I get 85-90MPGe even though I travel 30 miles at highway speeds (55-62mph). Ain't no way I'm getting that using the ICE.

Yep, if I come home with any battery left, I just haven't traveled 20-something miles. :) ChuckJ
