Fat Fusion Posted October 7, 2013 at 01:47 AM Report Share Posted October 7, 2013 at 01:47 AM Greetings fellow Energiers! I just picked up this Fusion Titanium Energi. It's my first non-V8 car, hence the title of my post. I bought it as a carpool lane cruiser in the San Jose / Santa Clara area. Quick question- Can I plug my charger cable into a short heavy duty extension cord to reach my parking spot outside my garage? My garage is reserved for my Boss 302 and Falcon convertible. TX NRG Posted October 7, 2013 at 06:11 AM Report Share Posted October 7, 2013 at 06:11 AM Congratulations Andy on your new car which looks great. Owner's manual says not to use one, but it was discussed in this thread http://www.fordfusionenergiforum.com/topic/1239-is-using-an-extension-cord-permitted-with-the-cord-that-comes-with-the-car/?do=findComment&comment=6916 Heavy Duty 10 Gauge should be ok, but fully uncoil both the charger cable and the extension cord to dissipate heat. Russael Posted October 7, 2013 at 10:51 AM Report Share Posted October 7, 2013 at 10:51 AM Welcome to the forum. Nice ride. :) Hopefully you can retrain yourself to NOT drive it like a V8. :) Yeah, you can use a heavy duty extension cord so long as it is rated to carry 1500 watts or greater. I have a heavy 12 gauge, 50 foot extension cord that meets that rating and I have used it before without issue. But like TX NRG posted, that thread discusses it in more detail. Dag Posted October 7, 2013 at 06:35 PM Report Share Posted October 7, 2013 at 06:35 PM Welcome - Im in the same boat. I just picked up a 2013 Energi Titanium and came from a F150 Platinum. For 30+ years I never cared about gas mileage, I just drove like a beast! Now, Im driving like a little old lady, and I have to tell you, being behind the wheel is so relaxing now. The car drives very well. It look's like we're twins..
Fat Fusion Posted October 7, 2013 at 09:49 PM Author Report Share Posted October 7, 2013 at 09:49 PM Thanks guys! Yep it's pretty relaxing to drive. I plugged it in over night then drove over to my folks to pick grapes and make wine. I ran out of electricity on the way back but the MPG says 64.something so all is well here! I'm hopeful that my carpool lane stickers will show up this week since I start a new job on Monday that requires heavy HWY 101 traffic. The dealer actually orders the stickers before they even receive the car so I have a chance. The car sat on the lot for about 2 days before I bought it with 4 miles on it! I got the car on 9/11, and finally got the plates/registration on Saturday 10/5. Filled out the on-lone form and sent it and my $8 off this morning. BTW - another thread mentions how Gov. Brown signed a new bill last week that extends the green stickers out to 2019! :woohoo:

I saw that other thread. Six years is an eternity in CA the way the politicians change their minds!
