TheGC1 Posted September 13, 2013 at 06:38 PM Report Share Posted September 13, 2013 at 06:38 PM I'm active in another forum for my other car and they are tracking the VINs and build counts, including counts for certain colors and options. Does anyone know of the build count for the Fusion Energi for 2013? Like how many were built in total, how many of each color, and for each option as well? Really just curious to know how many are out there and how rare they actually are... Thanks.
TX NRG Posted September 13, 2013 at 07:04 PM Report Share Posted September 13, 2013 at 07:04 PM 2,591 FF Energis sold through end of August with no breakout available for '13 vs '14 for the 600 sold/leased in August when the new ones started shipping. Industry estimates had over 3,000 in the channel during mid August. I estimate they made roughly 5,000 '13s. Haven't seen figures on colors but the 2 discontinued colors and Deep Impact Blue seem to be the rarest for 2013.

So based on the Production Sequence Number (digits 12-17), can you tell where your car was in the build sequence, or more accurately -- the VIN creation sequence? My Production Sequence Number for instance, is 252589. What do those numbers actually mean? Is it Energi # 2589, or is there more to it than that? Or is there a 6-digit number that start the Energi sequence? Like 250000 maybe? Well as I said, I don't know if you know, but I searched the web for this and on many, many other Ford forums they have many different explanations. Like one said that 2005 Mustangs started with 100000 for instance. Just real curious and hopefully someone knows. In my ZL1 forum, the "father" of the modern Camaro is actually a regular forum user and he provides all of this type of production and inside information... I don't suppose we have the "father" of the Energi in here do we? That would be awesome. In any case, I appreciate the feedback. Thanks. jeff_h Posted September 13, 2013 at 07:47 PM Report Share Posted September 13, 2013 at 07:47 PM (edited) My Production Sequence Number for instance, is 252589. What do those numbers actually mean? Is it Energi # 2589, or is there more to it than that? Or is there a 6-digit number that start the Energi sequence? Like 250000 maybe? I believe those last 6 numbers of the Fusion VINs are just the sequence in which the VINs were generated and given to the plant to schedule the supplier actions, actual build sequencing, etc. For example, one of my friends on the hybrid forum has those last 6 digits only 100 away from my wife's Energi, and given that about 1,200-1,500 (only my ballpark number based on total annual output) Fusions are built per day, they would have been built no more than one day away if that VIN number sequencing was solely the sequencing involved. However, his car was built 10 days sooner -- so while the VINs were generated very closely together, ours was held up due to (possibly) the color, the Energi trim, having a moonroof, having 17" instead of 18" wheels, and the list of possible variables goes on and on. There is a commodity constraints notice that gets sent to dealers to advise them of various scheduling actions that may affect their ordering or expected build times - an example was that Fusions with the moonroof were delayed by a couple weeks (a few months back), and around that time all Ruby Reds were deferred for 3-4 weeks, then after that the emphasis shifted to ONLY Ruby Red retail orders for a week, etc etc etc. So there are so many variables at play with all the trims, build conditions, issues with X number of suppliers, it gets a bit complicated to efficiently shove over 1,000 cars through a line with exactly the right stuff at the right time -- but they've had lots of practice. The way to tell from the Fusion VIN number which ones are Energis is in position 7, where the 'P' is an SE Energi and the 'S' is a Titanium Energi. The 'L' is an SE Hybrid, 'R' is Titanium Hybrid, and then there is 'H' and 'K' (and maybe 1-2 others) for the gas models. As for exact numbers produced by trim/color/etc, that probably remains internal to a manufacturer in most cases, as I don't recall seeing that level of granularity reported from Ford (not to a public schmo like me, anyway). Eric4539 Posted September 13, 2013 at 09:52 PM Report Share Posted September 13, 2013 at 09:52 PM I was looking at the dealer inventories in California. The San Diego and Los Angeles dealers seem to have a lot of 2013 Energi's on their lots still along with 2014's. One L.A. dealer has 33 2013's and 93 2014's on their lot!! I wonder how long it will take to sell all their 2013's?
TX NRG Posted September 14, 2013 at 02:31 AM Report Share Posted September 14, 2013 at 02:31 AM You can look up your vehicle's actual build date (note dd-mm-yyyy format) in etis by entering your VIN (disregard that it calls it a Transit Connect and not a Fusion). http://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleSelection.do

Hi TheGC1, I was actually trying to buy that car from Pompano Ford in late March, early April, but they refused to sell it to me at X-Plan. I also tried to get them to trade it to Metro Ford, but they refused as well. That car was equipped exactly as the one I ordered (but never bought). The original sticker for your car was created on 2/15/13. I have a copy of the original sticker if you want to see it. Just send me a PM and I will send it to you. Eric4539 Posted January 7, 2014 at 01:35 AM Report Share Posted January 7, 2014 at 01:35 AM CarMax finally has an Energi for sale. It seems to have most options; it does not have Adaptive Cruise Control or Active Park Assist. I think it has everything else. $33,998 is the No Haggle price. Brand new it was probably around $42,000. They list MPG as 44/41 which is odd since they list the Hybrid MPG as 47/47. http://www.carmax.com/search?ANa=4294960677&D=90&zip=95340&ASTc=2013%20ford%20fusion&Q=3817062c-4059-40f1-b72f-cb25ce408309&Ep=search:results:results%20page
SteveEnergi Posted January 7, 2014 at 12:21 PM Report Share Posted January 7, 2014 at 12:21 PM They Hybrid has better MPG because it doesn't have the large heavy battery that the Energi does. Weight affects MPG. That said, the Hybrid MPG was reduced to 44, I believe or somewhere around there.
