hawkeye Posted August 26, 2013 at 05:28 PM Report Share Posted August 26, 2013 at 05:28 PM I got the navigation to tell me what exits to take not the ones not to take. Went from nc to ny and was on 81 for almost 300 miles. In that span I crossed over 12 to 15 other main highways to have the system stop the music to alert me not to get off the exit. By the time I got to the exit I needed I ignored it thinking it was another false alarm until it was to late and had to turn around . Is there any way to disable this "feature"? Is this just a ford thing or is it like having to agree to what ever you agree to every time you use the navigation that are on all car navigation systems? Russael Posted August 26, 2013 at 06:08 PM Report Share Posted August 26, 2013 at 06:08 PM I've noticed it for every navigation system. I've noticed it mostly does that if the expressway you're on is splitting off on to another major highway, interstate, etc. My TomTom does it, I've seen a Garmin do it, and I'm guessing the nav for the Fusion is going to do the same thing. murphy Posted August 26, 2013 at 06:14 PM Report Share Posted August 26, 2013 at 06:14 PM My Garmin always told me to keep left or right when approaching a Y intersection in spite of the fact that it was obvious which way the main road went. Rhyalus Posted August 27, 2013 at 12:15 AM Report Share Posted August 27, 2013 at 12:15 AM Wow, my google maps does this but not as much. Just when there is a split in the main highway. FYI, I never use the nav in the Ford. I like having the map, but voice recognition and use in MFT sucks so bad, I can't use it. R
hawkeye Posted August 27, 2013 at 01:01 AM Author Report Share Posted August 27, 2013 at 01:01 AM I kinda of figured I was stuck with it. I actually have a 07 Ford f150 that has it but at least when you turn off voice prompts its completely quiet. The fusion goes to the chimes instead of voice plus cuts off the radio so there is no ignoring it.I imagine they consider it improved over the 07 version. Oh well, other than that and Sync I love the car.
Energized Posted August 27, 2013 at 01:21 AM Report Share Posted August 27, 2013 at 01:21 AM (edited) To turn the voice guidance off: <press Sync button> "Voice Guidance Off" To turn voice guidance on: <press Sync button> "Voice Guidance On " When voice guidance is turned off, the system doesn't interrupt with verbal commands or make any noise/chimes/bells at all. When voice guidance is turned off, all guidance is via the main touch screen and/or the small screen to the right of the speedo. hawkeye Posted August 27, 2013 at 01:44 AM Author Report Share Posted August 27, 2013 at 01:44 AM Thanks, I will try that. I turned voice off using the touch screen and it reverted to the chimes and those were the only 2 options. I will try it using sync button and see if that works. Energized Posted August 27, 2013 at 02:06 AM Report Share Posted August 27, 2013 at 02:06 AM Did you do turn voice off by pressing "Guidance Mute" under the Nav menu? I haven't tried that route, I use voice controls for most everything. As you mentioned, under "Nav Preferences" one can choose what kind of Guidance Prompts are desired, just a Tone or both Tone and Voice. I leave it on "Tone and Voice" but generally leave the guidance muted until I'm in an unfamiliar area and can benefit from the verbal commands. Russael Posted August 27, 2013 at 02:31 AM Report Share Posted August 27, 2013 at 02:31 AM Maybe it's just me, but I really dislike voice guidance. I really get annoyed with the constant reminders (like 3 warnings to turn... c'mon). With my TomTom (driving my Expedition), I mount it in the lower corner of the driver's side windshield, so I can simply see it at a glance. With the Fusion, I have the right screen in the instrument cluster show me the turns. I can see the benefit of voice guidance if you don't have the GPS mounted and maybe have it sitting in the passenger seat or teetering in a cupholder (so you can't see it), but I've never used mine in that manner. The chimes aren't too obtrusive so I haven't yet disabled those. I probably will at some point though.
hawkeye Posted August 28, 2013 at 11:11 PM Author Report Share Posted August 28, 2013 at 11:11 PM Somehow I missed that button. That will definitely make it better although I will never understand their logic on this one. Thanks
