surfandswim Posted August 22, 2013 at 02:21 AM Report Share Posted August 22, 2013 at 02:21 AM So I really like the Empower view when driving, especially when in EV later mode or when in hybrid mode because you can see the electric only threshold with the battery. This is good because you can adjust so that you can get into electric mode. What I don't like about this view, and where I think the Engage view is superior, is that if the gas engine is on, and the car is using BOTH electric and gas, the Empower is all white, but it doesn't give you any idea how much of your power is coming from the gas engine and how much is coming from the battery. The Engage view shows you both the gas and electric separately. Basically I think what would be best is a combined view using the Engage as the model, but still showing the electric portion and the gas portion separately so that you can see how much of each you are using.Have any of you thought about these displays? What display do you prefer?
Energized Posted August 22, 2013 at 11:37 PM Report Share Posted August 22, 2013 at 11:37 PM I use MyView with Engage and engine temp which allows me to easily toggle between Energy Use and Empower depending on the mode and mood I'm in. Rhyalus Posted August 23, 2013 at 07:38 PM Report Share Posted August 23, 2013 at 07:38 PM Empower all the way...you can indeed see when both the gas and electric engine/drive is running. At first I thought that Engage was better, but Empower shows you when the battery is charging or draining... R Andre07 and TX NRG
surfandswim Posted August 26, 2013 at 10:45 PM Author Report Share Posted August 26, 2013 at 10:45 PM I like Empower better, but it does NOT tell you how much electric you are drawing from the battery vs. the power coming from the engine. An easy way to see this is to drive in the AM after a full charge... then while you're on the road like a HWY or something, turn on EV Later.... the engine will turn on, but the will warm up the engine. When you're in Empower, you'll see the blue box which tells you at what point the engine will turn off, which is cool.... but you can't see the fact that when you immediately go into EV-Later, the blue goes away and it looks like all the power is coming from the engine, when it is in fact not, the battery is still being drawn while the engine warms up.You can easily see this by toggling the Empower view vs the Engage view. The empower is all white with the blue box (which is the cut off), but no indication of blue for electric battery power. When you toggle to Engage, you'll see the blue is actually powering the car and a very small amount of engine, until the engine warms up. What I wish they did was split the white line, so that it shows blue for the power from the battery when it is in fact drawing part from the battery, and white for the rest when it is drawing from the engine. Sometimes the car uses BOTH together, and you just can't see it in Empower...
Rhyalus Posted August 27, 2013 at 12:12 AM Report Share Posted August 27, 2013 at 12:12 AM So how would this impact your behavior? It probably is not a big deal... R
Energized Posted August 27, 2013 at 02:31 AM Report Share Posted August 27, 2013 at 02:31 AM When you toggle to Engage, you'll see the blue is actually powering the car and a very small amount of engine, until the engine warms up. I noticed this too. I'm glad to see that the engine is gradually brought up to operating temperature rather than going immediately from a cold state to a high demand state.
