TechOps Posted August 8, 2013 at 04:29 AM Report Share Posted August 8, 2013 at 04:29 AM Last weekend I was driving up to my family reunion in the Sierra Nevada mountains. Once I got far enough off route 50 to lose cell phone signal, my Fusion Energi stopped phoning home... It hasn't connected to My Ford Mobile since, and I can't track it or send it any commands. The vehicle locator still shows the spot where it lost coverage on Saturday. I upgraded Sync to the latest firmware yesterday, and was hoping that would fix it.... no luck. :(
shaggy314 Posted August 12, 2013 at 07:50 PM Report Share Posted August 12, 2013 at 07:50 PM At least it's on dry land. For a while in the spring MFM was locating cars in the ocean... sounds a lot like you need to reset MFSync using the instruction located elsewhere on here, so as to keep your settings intact. TechOps Posted August 13, 2013 at 05:51 AM Author Report Share Posted August 13, 2013 at 05:51 AM Can you post a link please? the only thing I found was the delayed reboot USB file from the ford fusion hybrid forum. Tried that but it didn't help. Remember that I upgraded Sync versions recently, which included numerous reboots and resets - didn't help with this issue that had started a few days prior.. :(
Russael Posted August 13, 2013 at 11:21 AM Report Share Posted August 13, 2013 at 11:21 AM Some suggestions that come to mind before you make a dealership trip: Have you tried deleting your car from the website and re-adding it? You'll have to do the authorization thing again, assuming at least that comes through. I know you said you updated the sync system, but there are other resets that you can try to do if you're inclined, such as removing the 12v negative battery cable for a few minutes and doing a reset that way. There's also the master reset in the system, but I don't see that bringing back 3G connectivity. Did you lose cellular signal with your own personal phone at that location, or did your destination actually have no mobile phone service? If you still can't make it work by deleting and re-adding your car, or by doing power cycles with the 12v system, or by a master MFT reset, I'd roll it to the dealership. It's under warranty and they'll take care of it. It's possible that the 3G module in the car just died.
TechOps Posted August 13, 2013 at 09:58 PM Author Report Share Posted August 13, 2013 at 09:58 PM Hi, I tried to delete the vehicle from both the Android app, as well as the website, for MFM. No success on either -- in both cases, it logged me out and when I logged back in, the vehicle was still there. I called up the Ford helpline, and they walked me through a system reset. (By the way, it removed all my nav settings and saved places -- but not radio presets.) That did nothing to help, and the app is still acting the same. There are clearly some major quality issues in the software that Ford is using for their backend platform. Hopefully they will be able to resolve this soon. larryh Posted August 13, 2013 at 10:32 PM Report Share Posted August 13, 2013 at 10:32 PM The following are others experiences with MFM not working: http://fordcmaxenergiforum.com/topic/991-myfordmobile-stopped-working-last-night/. The fuse on the Fusion Energi is on page 232: Cell Phone Passport. Andre07
Russael Posted August 14, 2013 at 12:46 AM Report Share Posted August 14, 2013 at 12:46 AM Since you tried the full system reset and tried deleting the car from the website... you could try pulling the fuse mentioned by larry, or you can pull the negative 12v battery cable for a few minutes (more invasive but will accomplish the same thing). That will power down the whole computer system and allow it to reset completely. If that doesn't work, check the fuse anyway and make sure it isn't blown. Failing THAT, take it to the dealership... got nothing else to suggest. :) Andre07
TechOps Posted August 15, 2013 at 05:20 PM Author Report Share Posted August 15, 2013 at 05:20 PM I spoke with another Ford rep this morning. They told me that they wanted me to pull & replace Fuse #10 (it is the same fuse for #10/11, so pull the one marked as #11 on the fuse box below the instrument console). This did the trick and I'm back online. I asked if it was a common problem, and they said it's not common per se but they do see it from time to time, and they're working on a fix. BTW, whoever designed the fuse box placement should have their automotive engineering credentials revoked... jeff_h and Andre07
