iamjustinpowell Posted July 22, 2013 at 03:15 AM Report Share Posted July 22, 2013 at 03:15 AM (edited) Hello all.... I was doing some research tonight on open source Level 2 charging options and I came across a project on Kickstarter.com. Thought everyone might be interested in it...... Here is a link to the kickstarter page.... http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/emw/emw-juicebox-an-open-source-level-2-ev-charging-st?ref=card They have already reached their goal of 40k dollars and production has begun. You can purchase a DIY kit for the tech savvy individual for only $99 plus the cost of the input/output cables! A fully functioning and assembled unit requires a pledge of $329 with the option to pledge more for additional units. Also, you will have the ability to purchase the input and output cables prior to shipping for a maximum of $200 for the set, which will be installed; bringing your total out of pocket to around $529 max. Let's support these guys and drive down the ridiculous cost of the commercially available chargers! This picture is from their project page and is a picture of a fully functioning prototype. shaggy314 Posted July 22, 2013 at 07:30 PM Report Share Posted July 22, 2013 at 07:30 PM Yeah for the money, I'm a little annoyed at how little the Leviton displays; power, charge, fault, it should show more.
73mach1 Posted July 22, 2013 at 07:54 PM Report Share Posted July 22, 2013 at 07:54 PM As for the faults you should get texts from the car, at least for a few years. Looking up the price of the cables it does sound like a decent deal. 25 foot cables from leviton is $174. Input cable is just a range plug or hard wired.
