howardbc Posted July 15, 2013 at 11:50 PM Report Share Posted July 15, 2013 at 11:50 PM I've had my car over 3 months now and I've noticed that the EV miles showing on the My Ford Mobile app has risen since I first got it. In other words, it would initially show a battery level of 26-28 miles available after a night's charge. But lately it has shown a battery level of 32-34 miles on MyFord Mobile after a night's charging. Using the same 120v wall outlet in my garage. But when I get in the car (inside a garage) to leave in the morning and turn the car on, the battery icon (display to left of steering wheel) only shows 22-25 EV miles available. This is BEFORE I've turned on the a/c or anything else or even pulled out of the garage. That's quite a drop in EV miles. Is it more a problem with the accuracy of the MyFord Mobile app than something with the car itself? I have not been doing the pre-conditioning since the car isn't that hot in the garage in the morning and the a/c cools it down so quickly, but maybe I should give it a try. Thoughts? murphy Posted July 15, 2013 at 11:55 PM Report Share Posted July 15, 2013 at 11:55 PM Are you sure the A/C isn't on? It can be difficult to get the compressor turned off.Put the energy display on the left screen and verify that the energy use is zero. Depauwler Posted July 16, 2013 at 12:21 AM Report Share Posted July 16, 2013 at 12:21 AM I think the distance is determined by the perceived MPGe, maybe the app and car don't agree? I've learned recently the car doesn't report trips < 2mi; do you have bad MPGe on short trips, so your car has a more accurate accounting? howardbc Posted July 16, 2013 at 12:38 AM Author Report Share Posted July 16, 2013 at 12:38 AM Hi, murphy. I know the a/c is on when I turn the car on, so maybe that is what is bringing the miles down immediately. But if I do the pre-conditioning thing and leave the car plugged in, I would need to leave the a/c on, right? Depauwler, I have my setting for MPG, not MPGe. I haven't been keeping track of what shows for short trips.
murphy Posted July 16, 2013 at 12:43 AM Report Share Posted July 16, 2013 at 12:43 AM Pre-conditioning is independent of the car settings. You tell it the temperature you want and it does whatever it needs to do to get there. During a test I saw it overshoot with the air conditioning and then turn the heater on to bring it back to the set temperature. Turn the climate control off before you get out of the car and see if that makes the numbers match.
Depauwler Posted July 16, 2013 at 01:22 AM Report Share Posted July 16, 2013 at 01:22 AM Well it still has to track it, even if it doesn't display it. It has to have some sort of statistic concerning your EV driving habits to be able to estimate the distance you should be able to drive on a particular amount of charge. murphy Posted July 16, 2013 at 01:26 AM Report Share Posted July 16, 2013 at 01:26 AM MyFordMobile does not compute the mileage estimate for the car.It displays the number the car gives it.
larryh Posted July 16, 2013 at 09:38 AM Report Share Posted July 16, 2013 at 09:38 AM (edited) From MyFord Mobile FAQs: Q: Why doesn't the distance-to-empty (DTE) displayed on the cluster at key-off match the MyFord Mobile DTE?A: The vehicle displays the distance-to-empty estimate which includes your average accessory usage if any accessories are turned on, but the vehicle sends the distance-to-empty estimate that does not include any accessory usage to MyFord Mobile.
