howardbc Posted September 2, 2013 at 12:15 AM Author Report Share Posted September 2, 2013 at 12:15 AM Thanks, larryh. I sign into MyFord, and click on "My Driving", then "Trip & Charge Log." When I click on the right-pointing blue arrow for an individual trip, I see the MPG for that one trip. Is that what your're referring to? So if I took 4 individual trips during a day, I would need to add them up and find the average for that day, right? ;) Okay, that's better than nothing. But let me know if I am way off base. Thanks. larryh Posted September 2, 2013 at 12:21 AM Report Share Posted September 2, 2013 at 12:21 AM If you took 4 trips during a day and wanted the average MPG for the day, you would need to compute the number of gallons of gas used for each individual trip. To compute the gallons for each individual trip, take the miles for the trip and divide by the MPG for the trip. Add up the distances for each of the trips and then divide this total by the sum of the gallons for each trip. That is your average MPG for that day. We can also estimate the MPG for the days that you used plug-in energy if you display the results for MFM for those days.
howardbc Posted September 2, 2013 at 12:26 AM Author Report Share Posted September 2, 2013 at 12:26 AM Okay, so if I compute the MPG (not MPG-e) for just the 3 days when the car was not charged at all, I get MPGs of 41, 35, and 62 MPG, for an average of 46MPG! I am in Heaven! This is the car running in hybrid mode, plus using the regenerative system, but with no external charging of the battery. This is wonderful! Thank you, larryh, for educating me. larryh Posted September 2, 2013 at 12:33 AM Report Share Posted September 2, 2013 at 12:33 AM MPG and MPGe are almost identical in hybrid mode. To compute the average for your three days, you need to do the same calculations as you did for an indivdual day. Compute the gas for each day: 137.3/41 = 3.3517.8/35 = 0.5152.4/62 = 0.85 Then the MPG is (137.3 + 17.8 + 52.4) / (3.35 + 0.51 + 0.85) = 207.5 / 4.71 = 44 MPG. FusionDad Posted September 2, 2013 at 01:11 AM Report Share Posted September 2, 2013 at 01:11 AM (edited) Back home in Northern Virginia from a three+ week trip across America - me and Son. Trip mileage: 6965 miles (uuuf!). Indicated MPGe on the Fusion display when we started: 47.9. Indicated MPGe on the Fusion's display when we pulled into the driveway: 42.2. Gasoline gallons used during the trip: 168. My hand-calculated MPG for the trip (miles/gallons) = 41.5, and considering how we drove this beastie out West, I'm happy with that. The Prius Plug-In we also own would have done this trip with a higher gas mileage. The Fusion was a better car for it overall: quieter, more powerful, more roomy: two adults, two sleeping bags, two sleeping pads, a two-person Eureka tent, a Playmate food cooler, two dress suits for a wedding in Minenapolis enroute, two duffle bags (one each), two+ coats, sweatshirts etc. for the mountains, two notebook/laptop backpacks, and the usual dwindling case of water bottles, the usual bug / window washing fluid jug, the dry goods food box, the usual trip mementoes and knicknacks you pick up during such a trip, i.e. a hand-made wooden inlaid canoe paddle from an old Army buddy at whose house we stayed, a loose bottle of Bourbon for those cold campground evenings, and the two mandatory boxed Stetson hats we picked up in Cody Wyoming. We actually had room to spare every day with all this stuff in the car.IMHO - the Ford 2013 Fusion Energi Titanium (our model) is a damn fine car. It has its quirks, like any car make & model - but it's a solid car and easy to live with. Oh, and it's "Made in America" or at least in neighboring northern Mexico. However, I'll take the Toyota PiP's GPS any day over the Ford Fusion's GPS. Sloooooooooooow to load, loses its path often, re-programs the route randomly for no reason when restarted at a gas station etc. Phoooey! Additionally, by the trip's end we noticed the same problems with the front passenger seat that others have described in this blog: the passenger seat's rear is too far down and there's no way to adjust it. I actually live relatively close to DAVE who applied a fix - saw DAVE, got some advice and two spare bolts he had, and plan to fabricate a solid fix by next weekend. ChuckJ Posted September 3, 2013 at 01:02 AM Report Share Posted September 3, 2013 at 01:02 AM Two 350 mile trips (one day each) and 45MPG at 70MPH. What I'm confused at is why the gas tank only takes 8.5 gallons when it gets to 1/4 tank. ChuckJ
FusionEnergi Posted November 30, 2013 at 01:13 PM Report Share Posted November 30, 2013 at 01:13 PM (edited) We took our first road trip in the Energi and had a great time!We traveled a total of 257.1 miles (Odometer said 5015.2 when left and 5272.3 when returned).According to the computer over a 1/3rd of our trip was EV. Now sure how that is entirely true? I had a full charge when we left home. I charged for a few minutes at a rest stop. I have kids and they have to stop and pee. I got 1 mile on the battery at the stop, better than nothing. The rest area was very clean, family friendly bathrooms, a large selection of vending machine options and would be a great place to picnic if weather was better. The Electric is free provided by Dominion Power, but is only a level one charge.I received another 9 miles of charge when we stopped and met Jeff_h and his wonder family. We took a few photos and chatted. We appreciated their kindness and then traveled on to my mothers house. Which was only about 5 miles away! It is kind of funny how owning a type of car can bring people together, but I would not charge the experience for anything.I received a full slow charge at my mothers. Enjoyed seeing family, eating turkey, hearing old childhood stories, and working on bonding. My family (like most I would presume) has had its share of difficulties. Life is short. Forgiveness and love is so important even is the most trying situations.Posted a few pics to show the trip data. What is my MPGe with the 12.6kWh?Is 46.2 mpg correct? Is that good? I mostly traveled about 60mpg with heat at 74. Yep, I WAS the slowest one on the road. The only vehicle I passed was an abandoned one on the side of the road. I am that poke.I used 5.18 gallons. Computer says 108.1 EV miles, which contains the hybrid miles(ICE assisted in the production). I think that's kind of funny. Just like how they say the Volt is an Electric car when the engine comes on the generate the electric miles....sorry, trying not to detour from tread. My Mpge is now down from 155MPGe to 139MPGe. I am still ecstatic with those numbers. Now I need to figure out how to put pictures in my album without them being on the top/front page of the ford fusion energi site! larryh Posted November 30, 2013 at 01:23 PM Report Share Posted November 30, 2013 at 01:23 PM (edited) 46.2 is MPGe, which includes electricity: 257.1 / (5.18 + 12.6/33.705) = 46.3 The 33.705 divisor converts kWh to equivalent gallons of gasoline. MPG is 257.1 / 5.18 = 49.6. Going 60 mph in hybrid mode, you should average about 47 MPG.
