  1. I just traded in my 2016 Energi for a 2019! I hate that they got rid of the USB ports inside the center console and only have the two below the radio. They left a covering where they were mounted in previous gens so I'm wondering if anyone has added USBs back to that spot or knows if the wiring is still in place that they could be easily added. I'm thinking it would be pretty easy to tie into a power wire for charging, but it'd be nice to have full use of them for android auto, data, etc. Thank you!
  2. I have a 2015 Fusion Energi since new and now in the Arizona desert getting to 110° my car sometimes will not run on the battery. I charge at night and it's fine going to work and I charge on 110 at work and the battery is charged about 3 hours before I leave for work. In the last two days whenever I get in the car after work, the car won't even run on the battery. I know it takes a lot of KW's to run the AC when it's 110° but I've even tried with no AC and the Empower bar is so low that when I give it just a little gas the engine starts up. Just curious if it's the heat, or is there something wrong. I called the dealer and they said it's normal. But on my 33 mile drive home the engine ran the entire time and when I got home my trip gauge said I used 4.5kw and my EV was 0. I think my car has a 7kw battery and I don't remember how many KW's it used when I bought the car but after almost 3yrs and 60k miles I think only getting 4.5kw from the battery may be normal degradation. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  3. My Energi is a 2014 with about 50,000 miles on it. The other day I noticed when I went to plug it in to charge it I did not hear the audible click sound, from a relay or something, that I had heard in the past. I also noticed that I no longer see the light ring around the charging port light up in sequence. When it is charging the 1st segment does not light up. However the 2nd and 3rd do. The 4th does not. Also, when the car is done charging the lights are supposed to go out, but the 2nd & 3rd remain on. Overall, the "miles" from a full charge see to be down to between 18 and 20 miles, where this time of the year due to the warm weather I would see in past years the value at 22 miles or above. Inside the car it says 100% charged. The indicator light on the charger says it is done charging and not charging the car any more. Is a failure of the charging port on the car a known and common occurrence? I have not gone to the dealer yet, came here for advice first.
  4. Quick warning. Purchased new 2015 Ford Fusion Energi mid-Oct. After 27 days driving I had a fault when charging error message. What you may not know is as soon as your EV battery bank is depleted & is not accepting a charge, you can not drive your vehicle. It will not move even though it has an ICE. Took it to dealer and it took 20 days for the car to be fixed. Multiple calls between dealer & Ford engineers. Replaced just about every part imaginable. Was happy when I finally got car back. 28 days later, same charge fault. Now they've had the car for 4 more weeks and still don't have a fix. In total I've owned the car for 103 days. 55 days the car worked 48 days the car has been sitting at the dealer trying to be repaired. I don't know what the resolution will be nor the timing, but if you have this issue be ready for a long frustrating road. Ford may have built a great car, but I'd question their ability to diagnose and service the charging system. If I try hard, I can almost remember what my car looked like...
  5. Has anyone tried to charge ford fusion energi using solar panel? Is this even possible? This would extend EV range.
  6. Hi community. I decided to post a modified "form letter" that I have been sending to local malls and restaurants in my area encouraging them to install PHEV charging stations. I decided to make it available to the community, so if inclined, you can do the same. I have to say that I already had success at one outdoor shopping area. The idea is to make it simple for the potential businesses to become aware of the growing PHEV market and how inexpensive the stations are. Note: Everything in brackets [ ] should be replaced with the business you are targeting, as well as your name, where appropriate. Good luck and if you have time, please spread the word. Steve ==================================================== Hi [manager name], my name is [my name] and I am a Plug In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) owner. Each day there are more and more PHEV and electric only vehicles on the road which is positively affecting our environment and decreasing our dependence on foreign oil. Our vehicles have various electric only ranges, so we look for and encourage more businesses to install the Charging Stations. The ideal location for charging stations is where someone will be for a couple of hours, such as a [mall name or restaurant]. This effort can be a boon to your business. The PHEV owners specifically look for public PHEV stations when we are looking to dine at a restaurant, or shop. For example, [town name] has stations all over town from their parking garages to the [mall name]. This is a perfect opportunity for the [mall name or restaurant] to install a station or two and advertise that you have such a station(s). You may be the first in our area. [PHEV Station], just down the road from the [mall] has a station which works perfectly for diners. Please consider having a Level 2 charging station installed for your patrons. The PHEV community is very active and word of mouth of new charging stations spreads quickly among us. Level 2 stations are around $2000. There are various manufacturers on the market. Here is a link to one of the USA manufacturers. http://stores.homestead.com/ClipperCreekInc/-strse-1/CS-dsh-40/Detail.bok The EV infrastructure tax credit on an EV charge station is 30% up to $1000 for consumers and 30% up to $30,000 for businesses. Please see the link to the Department of Energy. http://www.afdc.energy.gov/laws/law/US/10513 If I can be of further assistance, or if you have any questions, please email me. Thanks for considering the installation of PHEV charging stations. [your name and email]
  7. Hello everyone! So I have a 2013 Ford Fusion Energi. I absolutely love my car. I have had it for 11.5 months now and I am on my second tank of gas with almost 9K miles on it. I bought the car brand new and have been in love since day one. The other day though it started doing something weird. It kept dropping me out of electric mode when I went to accelerate from a dead stop, at say a stop light. I still had 15 miles left of charge on the battery. A little about my driving. I may be 22 but I drive like an old person when I accelerate because I try to make my electric battery last as long as I can before I hit hybrid mode. So I have very slow starts and of course no sudden stops, have to capture as much energy back that I can, haha. Here are some factors that might be causing it. It is summer and the temperature where I am at has gone from the 60's, Fahrenheit, to the 100's. Now this isn't unusual but we had record breaking highs last summer and it this didn't happen then. Also there are no extreme hills where I am at so its not like the engine is working overtime to get up a hill. My question is, has anyone else had this problem? My service department is trying to tell me this is normal. It can't be normal though because it just started happening to me last week. Why would I spend an extra 20k on a plug in hybrid when I could have gone with the actual hybrid and saved myself the money.
  8. The following is a graph of the KW load while charging an Energi battery that has been completely emptied. The graph doesn't start and end at zero because this is the total load of my house. Subtract 0.9 KW from the graph to get the charge load. The charge consumed 7.09 KWH. At my rate of $0.16 per KWH that is $1.13. After 1 hour the charge stopped momentarily probably to check the battery state of charge. At the end of the charge cycle the charge rate was stepped down. The charge time was 2:09 with the temperature at 70 degrees.
  9. From the album: Splendida Futuris (Bright Future)

The ring around the charging port will light up when it is charging, and will also illuminate when you open the door to show either the amount of battery charge that is remaining.
