  1. We went with a 40A Clipper Creek which is rebranded to Sun Country in Canada but the hard wired one. The salesman recommended future proofing and we did somewhat. We installed wire heavy enough for at least a 60A in the future. Going beyond that would be quite expensive like changing the panel etc. to 200A
  2. We got our cheque last week for $925 (Can) about the same with current exchange. I was not expecting it! Funny thing is this is the first car I have ever owned to do BETTER than I expected or was told! We are averaging 2.6 l/100km. Our Chev van was 12! (so 80% less) My wife loves the car and we just had 240v installed and will for sure be looking at more EV's!
  3. We just had the 240v charger installed and that is much nicer/faster!
  4. We just got the 240v charger and will have installed this week so delay until use seems the consensus for battery life. (on overnight charge)
  5. So Murphy you are saying 240v is easier on the battery? We are going to have both but when the car is down for the night 2 hours or 6 is no big deal a little electricity loss is not really a big deal the $9k battery is a big deal "if" one or the other 120 or 240 was easier. I know in talking to Tesla they do not recommend SC all the time and to use the easier 240v. What is the easiest on our MUCH smaller batteries? By the way I have not seen any huge increase in electricity use beyond the stated use on the car energy use gauge. i.e. I am not noticing a huge heat loss? Are you?
  6. I have test drove a Tesla MS Performance and love that and own a Fusion Energi and love it.
  7. Shaggy yes of course on the less heat loss on 240v. We are getting 240v but when charging at night why do it in 2 if 6 is easier on the battery we are sleeping anyway. The battery though is far more important long term cost than electricity. I have yet to read all the paper posted here from Larry but did I not see 800 charges you should see some effect? I assume you are not seeing affect?
  8. Thanks Larry! Yes I know all the benefits of 240v but always wondered which was strictly better for the battery. Also what was too fast for optimum life. I hear our batteries are $9,000 currently so life is a BIG concern! I assume this will come down much in price?
  9. We have the 120v charger that came with the Fusion. We are looking at a 240v charger. I know it is much faster the question I have always wondered is which is "better" in terms of the battery lasting?
  10. Kybuck What is the loss on L2 charging? We are looking at getting that right now. I do not think it will ever pay back until we get another electric car.
  11. I agree! I wanted a car I liked first that happened to be a plug in. I wanted a Tesla MS but at 2x the cost of the Fusion and being from Canada and no Super Chargers for over 2,000 miles in Canada fully electric has a price in a little hard to work with. The Fusion is a very nice car maybe our family favourite we have owned and last two cars were a BMW 325ci and Mercedes E class. I really like the car! Not the sportiest suspension but the car was made for comfort which it excels. The Fusion has reduced our gas consumption by 80% and we have saved enough CO2 from going into the atmosphere to fill a hot air balloon in month.
  12. I am surprised that a lot more of these cars are not out there? I have never seen an ad on one? Our fuel mileage is 2.3 L/100km in the 1500kms since we have had it and still dropping. (liters per 100km you want to use less)(around 100 U.S. miles per gallon) The car is awesome! Our Chev Uplaner is 12L/100km. So around 80% less? Our other car is a BMW 325ci and before that a Mercedes 124 body style 300e which was a very nice car. The handling in this car is not as good as the 325ci sport package or quite the feel of the Mercedes but this is a VERY nice car! There is just something about this car? My wife loves it, I love it. So far I would say the favorite car we have owned! Something very serene and relaxing of course especially when in electric. Ford has done a great job on this one!
  13. Jcdrurys2s $500 is still a fair amount on gas but in all honesty I am not sure the Energi would solve it for you. A Tesla MS might though? Other than the cost why not? Energi less than 8kwh battery Tesla 85... I love our Energi which does a lot of short runs in electric but long drives electric really does not do much 20 miles and your out. For highway driving you need a BIG battery...
  14. We have only had our Energi for 10 days but I am shocked at how good the fuel mileage is, just awesome. I am curious if you really are driving as much highway as you think? We have put 70% of our miles on EV so far more than I thought we could. That being said getting rid of an old car to save gas is one thing but a new one? We averaged more than $600 a month on gas some months $800 and I expect a 75% reduction. How much do you spend now? Your reduction % would be smaller than ours as you are starting better with a Fusion compared to a Uplander van and BMW 325ci. Love driving in electric though so not sure of that value to you?!
  15. Hi Chris Nice to meet you and funny you are looking at the Fusion Energi. We just bought ours yesterday and do not pick up till tomorrow but funny you mention it we were wondering about the Focus Electric. The day is literally here in most two car families that a FFE and Focus electric and virtually no gas! For us it started on a test drive of the Tesla MS where I went the gasoline era is over...
  16. Hello everyone I have been reading this forum for a couple of weeks. I first became interested in EV's after driving a Tesla MS. Since that test drive I tracked our gas expenses from $400 to $800 a month. I would not have guessed us so high. Tesla great car but has been quite slow installing SC's in Canada by choice. Actually 97 in the U.S. 0 in Canada. So we had to look at other options and my wife and I really liked the MKZ hybrid on a test drive but really wanted plug in ability. We are installing Solar panels here as soon as approved and it is intoxicating knowing most of our driving will be electric! I am very excited and found the Fusion to be a very nice ride! Comfort and quiet wise. Looking forward to meeting all of you on this exciting journey off of oil.
