My Ford Mobile - Incorrect car image and color

This has been an issue every year when the new model year comes out. For some reason, Ford is slow to update the validation table that tells the system which colors are valid for the new model year. Until they update the table, you get stuck with the fuzzy avatar and cannot select a color. There used to be a hack to get to work by manipulating some browser parameters, but I think that stopped working. I know I had the issue with my 2014 Focus Electric that I leased in April of 2014, and I believe I had the problem again when I leased my 2015 C-Max Energi in May of 2015. Eventually they get around to adding the entries for the new model year to the table, then everything starts to work like people with older cars describe it. -
Overall Expected Long Term Battery Life

I do use the 120V EVSE with Go-times at home, but I park in an unheated garage at home, so not the exact same circumstances. When it's quite cold, the 120V EVSE cannot achieve the chosen temperature, but it does take the edge off, and it does heat up the coolant in the heating system so that I get heat much quicker once I start the car. I do keep the climate control set to 16.5 when it is below -10C to try and preserve a bit of EV range rather then just dumping all my battery into the heater trying to maintain the cabin at 22. Since I park in the garage at home, I don't know how well the 120V EVSE will work to clear the windows on frosty mornings. I park outside at work and the 208/240V EVSE there will warm up the car beautifully, even on the coldest days. I set my Go-time to 29C and enjoy climbing into a very warm car. I didn't have to scrape a window all winter last year :-) Unless there is a lot of heavy snow, it will usually melt the snow off the windows as well, or at least loosen it up so I can quickly knock it off with my brush. For my commuting, the preconditioning makes it so that was able to use a light jacket and light gloves to go to and from work. I carry my Sorels, Parka and Mitts in the back of the car for emergencies. Another note on Go-times. I find it to be ideal to set the go-time for about 10-15 minute before the time I actually plan to leave. That is about how long the car will keep the car warm before turning off. This gives the 120V EVSE a little more time to try its best to make a dent in the cold. -
It sounds a bit like the car was possibly repossessed and the original owner wasn't cooperative with returning the keys. They just bought new fobs and programmed them to the car without following through with having keys cut. I'd be inclined to get back in touch with CarMax and ask them to either get keys made for you or reimburse you for the cost of having physical keys made at the dealer. I'm not sure about how they go about breaking into the car when the 12V battery has failed.

Highway driving, 114+ km/h and sudden loss of fuel economy

Checking the tire pressure is a good call, there is also a possibility that the car originally came with it's alignment optimized for fuel economy and they aligned to more "normal" settings. Typically cars that are trying to optimize for fuel economy will have less toe-in than "normal" settings. This decreases the rolling resistance of the car, but can make it feel like it wanders a bit at highway speeds. More toe in can feel more stable with stronger self centering and straighter tracking. All of the cars I have purchased in recent years have been MPG leaders in their category, and they all have had a bit more "wandering" due to having the alignment set to lees toe-in. -
You can have more than 2 users with access to your car(s), but MFM only tracks discreet data for the accounts that Keys are assigned to. Each user can be given different levels of permission and yes, if they are granted permission, they can lock/unlock, remotes start, change go-times and set up value charge profiles etc. Each account can make their own choices as to what notifications they get and the method of notification. I have 2 cars on my account with 4 users linked to my cars. One user is me, I have a key for each car, and admin privileges. My wife also has admin privileges, with a key for my C-Max assigned to her. One friend in Seattle has a key to my Focus, but limited privileges. Another friend in Seattle has no keys and very limited access (he used to drive my car, and I left him access so he could "spy" on my other friend :-) I've use the MFM website on Safari on my iPad with not problems, the website does not seem to have any browser specific peculiarities. I use it from Mozilla, Chrome, Safari and occasionally IE. Chris W

Check owner.ford.com, the should be a Field Service Action (15N04?) loaded against your VIN to replace the 2G modem with a new 3G modem.

Overall Expected Long Term Battery Life

Vin, I am in Winnipeg, so slightly different climate, but I do charge my 2015 C-Max Energi to 100% twice a day, and after 17 months and 26k kms, I still get about 5.6 kWh of energy from the battery on a trip that fully depletes the battery to hybrid mode. That is basically the same as what I got when the car was brand new. Do you have 240V charging at work, or are you bringing your 120V EVSE to work? Some things to avoid for best battery life are 1) Leaving the car sitting at 100% charge when it is hot. 2) Charging the car while the battery is hot. 3) Rapid acceleration followed by hard braking (normal driving for most Winnipeg drivers) 4) Rapidly discharging/charging the battery by driving at high speeds on Electric, Climbing big hills on Electric, using regen aggressively to recharge the battery while descending large hills, etc. Some things should that help battery life are: 1) Keeping it cool, park in the shade when possible. 2) Switching to EV Later when driving at higher speeds. To minimize charging a hot battery and the time my car spends sitting at 100% charge in the heat, I set up a value charge profile for home and work and use go-times to control when my car charges. I charge overnight on 120V, mainly after 1 AM after the battery has had a chance to cool down. At work, I charge on 208/240V and set it to charge so it finishes just before I am scheduled to leave. Ironically, this same behavior works to keep some warmth in the battery to reduce capacity losses during cold weather. I keep the car plugged in at work and at home at all times so the cooling fans are able to do what they can to minimize heat build-up. During warmer/hot months, I try to leave the rear windows rolled down a bit to keep the interior from heating up too much and transferring that heat into the battery -
Didn't the Fusion Energi Owners get the FSA for the modem replacement loaded into their owner.ford.com accounts? Both my 2015 C-Max Energi and my 2014 Focus Electric got this FSA Title: EMBEDDED MODEM REPLACEMENT Field Service Action Number: 15N04Check your owner.ford.com account, the reports on the C-Max Energi forum is that the modems are available and the replacements are working much better than the 2G units.

Try to find somebody about to turn their car in at the end of their lease and trade with them. If Ford doesn't consider it to be important to the function of a PHEV, they won't mind getting the defective one back with the lease return. -
How Do I Customize Photo of Car on MyFordMobile

This seems to happen every year when the new model year comes out. I have no knowledge of how their system is structured, but if I had to guess, I would say that there is a validation table that lists which colors are available for each model year. My guess is that as of right now, the validation table does not have any entries for the 2017 model year. I used the hack referenced above to fix my 2014 Focus electric in about June of 2014. -
2017 Fusion Energi Charge Port Ring not following the rules

Based on what I've read in other forums, this is a bug with Sync 3. Hopefully it will get fixed when the major update to Sync 3 comes out that adds Apple Carplay and Android auto, although since your car is a 2017, you may have those already. -
My Car is a C-Max, not a Fusion, but on my car go-times will not deplete the battery, it only heats/cools using the power available from the EVSE. Remote Start can and does consume power from the battery, especially if you are using the stock Level 1 EVSE. On a 3.3kW+ L2 EVSE, go-times are much more effective, and you are much less likely to use much battery when remote starting.

I agree that Ford is dealing with this way too late to keep customer happy, but to be clear GM introduced 4G capability for a few vehicles in 2015 and more models in 2016 (from the OnStar website "4G LTE availability in specific Model Year 2015 and 2016 vehicles") All GM Onstar equipped vehicle prior to to that are 2G just like our Energis and will stop working just like our Energis. I do think that GM is farther along with a path forward for those that pay the monthly fee for an OnStar subscription, but for those who don't pay for the service, the modem will just stop working. Nissan is in the same boat with the 2011-2015 Nissan Leaf, They have published statements that it will stop working, but they have not identified a path forward yet. Ford has just recently started advertising MFM-like features for non-plug-in cars, so they have something going on that is newer than 2G, we will just have to wait and see if / when it trickles down to our cars.

It might be a newer version yet than the AG version, but since it has the blinking "Check Outlet" option, it is newer than mid-2014 MY. Based on the production date, it appears it was made in 2016.

I think the plug overheat safety feature was added sometime during the 2014 MY production run. It sounds like yours is either faulty, or just overly sensitive. I would take it back to the dealer and see if it does the same thing in their outlet and have them replace it under warranty. Another thing you could try in the mean time would be to use a very short heavy duty extension cord with a nice tight socket and see if that had any effect, just to eliminate any question about the quality of the connection at the outlet.

If you go in on the MyFordMobile website and edit your Default value charge profile (NOT the location specific profile you use for your home or work) It will allow you to change the default voltage it assumes when predicting charge times prior to being plugged in. At least that's what I perceive the setting to do and it seems to be working for me on both my C-Max Energi and my Focus Electric

Fitting 50+ kWh of battery into a focus is intriguing, but doesn't seem likely. Dumping the ICE, Gas tank and exhaust system from a C-Max to make room for 60 kWh would be awesome and perhaps closer to feasible. Hopefully something along those lines is what Ford has in mind. On the truck front, I expect I'll be very seriously looking at a VTRUX when they are available for sale to consumers.

It seems like every year it takes them a while to get the tables updated that show the allowable combinations of model year and color. I went through this with my 2014 Focus Electric. I remember a "hack" that someone discovered that let us get it working. I'll see if I can find the old post on the topic I found it! I'm not sure if the current situation is the same, but it sounds very similar. You can select the radio buttons and press save to make your modification. This trick may no longer work if they update their page and change the CSS, but it looks like they're in no rush to do that. I don't think warranty replacements are 3G, but I have heard report that Ford has replacement 3G modems in the pipeline and they are replacing the modems in the Lincoln Models 1st

Can you post the part number of the 2016 EVSE. Perhaps they changed something and it could be safely plugged into 240V with an adapter. From what I have read, the EVSE that comes with the 2nd generation Chevy Volt can be used with 240V with just an adapter, so maybe Ford is following the same path.

There is also no guarantee that the 1st to make a reservation will be the 1st to receive their cars. There is a sequence to the delivery plans. Fully equipped get built before base models, existing Tesla customers get their cars before new customers, and the most recent rumor is that west coast deliveries will start before east coast. If you want your car before the 200k number gets delivered, your best bet is to own, or buy a Model S or X, Live in CA, and order a fully loaded D version with a big battery.

I wouldn't describe the Ford supplied Level 1 EVSE as rare-use, I would say it's for daily use in controlled conditions or for infrequent use in more random conditions, depending on your circumstances. I would describe ALL EVSEs that are designed to be plugged into regular household 120V 15A outlets, regardless of who made them, as having limitations. The biggest limitation is the widespread use in the US of VERY poor quality 120V, 15A outlets that are not fit for use with a 12A continuous load. I would guess that this applies to 80-90%+ of all 120V outlets installed in the US. This limitation is mostly beyond the control of the car & EVSE manufacturers, but Chevy did try to address it in the Volt by having the 120V charge rate default to 8A, with owner intervention required to switch to 12A. Both Nissan and Ford redesigned their L1 EVSEs to have thermistors in the plug to detect overheating in poor quality outlets and shut the EVSE down to prevent poor quality outlets from causing fires Another major limitation that is difficult to overcome is that the NEMA 5-15 outlets/plugs do not hold up well to frequent plug/unplug cycles. The 5-15 plug on the Ford EVSE is fine if it is plugged into a high quality outlet and unplugged infrequently, but if it is plugged and unplugged many times per week and used in a wide variety of outlets of questionable quality, it is bound to be damaged by wear and tear, but worse yet likely to be irreversibly damaged by excess heat generated when used with poor quality outlets. Once the plug becomes damaged, it is likely to overheat when connect to any outlet regardless of quality. My Ford provided L1 EVSE is mounted on the wall in my garage, plugged into a high quality outlet. I use it to charge my Energi from nearly empty to full, every night. The plug/socket experiences no detectable warming, even after hours of full rate charging. It has been unplugged/plugged less than a dozen times in the year I've owned the car. I don't take it with my when I drive. I do use public charging where it is available, and purposefully frequent establishments that make public charging available, but won't generally risk plugging my L1 EVSE into an outlet that I don't know the quality/history of. The advantage of a PHEV is that you always have the option of using a little gas instead of charging when out and about. Using it this way, I expect my Ford supplied EVSE to last the life of the car as the J1772 connector IS designed for frequent repeated plug/unplug cycles, unlike the 5-15 plug on the other end of the EVSE. I hope you have a great experience with the EV institute unit. The fact that the 5-15 plug is part of a replaceable adapter bodes well for using it in a wide variety of environments without risking damage to the EVSE. I also hope Ford gets you a properly functioning L1 EVSE to share duties or serve as a backup. Either way, it helps you get back to enjoying your car rather than fretting about whether the EVSE will do it's job each day.

Daytime Running Lights (DRL) Enabled

There is different programming for US and Canadian market cars. In Canada, the DRLS cannot legally be allowed to be disabled through menus, so the 2015 cars in Canada do not have the option. I have been told that if you bring the US market car to Canada with the DRLs turned on through a customer accessible menu setting and the inspector is thorough, they will fail the car. I would think the ForScan option on the 2013 models would not be considered customer accessible, and would be acceptable. I also pretty sure the Canadian market car also do not have the Vehicle Health Report capability
