The GO times are stored in the cell phone modem (TCU) but don't require any communications for them to work. I used GO times for years with the old 2G modem even though there was no AT&T 2G signal here.

It would have nice if Ford had added an option to set the maximum charge percentage just for such situations, but they didn't, so you can't start at 80-90% without some annoying manual unplugging.

I have the same problem. It's about 600 feet drop down into town (about 4 miles away) from my house. I set the touchscreen to the page that shows battery percentage before I leave. There is an uphill near the beginning of my trip before descending. It will fall below 100% once I get to the top any time of the year, at that point I switch from D to L. In winter (because of the heater power draw) It normally doesn't rise back up to 100 by the time I get to the bottom of the hill so no problems. But in summer once it gets back up to 100% I switch back to D until I can burn off some power in town. The way Ford intended it to work is to apply engine braking without spark or gas rather than just use the friction brake. Personally I think this is pretty stupid, they should at least have a setting to disable that. But since I don't use the engine for months at a time if the engine starts it actually runs the engine until it heats up.

Can the charging plug be locked when charging?
jdbob replied to ZenPerspective's topic in Batteries & Charging
It's a design problem with the Type 1 (J-1772) plug. Other plugs such as Tesla and Type 2 (Mennekes) have a notch in the casing for locking by the car.- 2 replies

The 35kW figure is for the hybrid version I believe. For the Energi models it's 68kW. I have seen reviews on other hybrid cars that do mention that peak HP is different between the motor and the engine, so that probably explains the difference.

The iPhone app version 3.4.10 shows the correct times for mine. But the website is off by 7 hours. I'm in Pacific time zone which is 7 hours before UTC so it sounds like they are ignoring the profile and using UTC. You are in Central which is 5 hours different and your times are off by 5 hours, so at least Ford is consistent :) My iMac is set to UTC (due to my work) so I wonder if at some point Ford ignored people's profile and start using the users computer time instead? Is your computer set to central time or UTC?

Maybe it will only be a fleet vehicle for 2017. Ford does sell the C-Max Energi in China, but only as a fleet vehicle.
-
The only mention I saw was in a fleet preview guide. http://www.fleet.ford.com/resources/ford/general/pdf/brochures/2018/2018_CMaxEnergi.pdf

I had one of the original 2G modems in my C-Max that had a similar problem. We have 3G AT&T here but no 2G. When I traveled someplace with 2G and then came back to no 2G it would get stuck on and drain the 12V battery until it got to 8V or so and then shutdown. Apparently the 3G has similar issues, Ford being unable to learn from past mistakes....

From the service manual: This DTC indicates cell balance circuit J is stuck closed for 2 consecutive power cycles. CLEAR the DTCs and REPEAT the selftest. If the DTC is still present. INSTALL a new BECM. REFER to: Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) - Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) (414-03A High Voltage Battery, Mounting and Cables, Removal and Installation). You could try clearing the code (if you have the equipment to do that) and power cycle the car. If it's still there sounds like you need a new BECM.
-
Sure looks like it. I made a point of taking a picture of the new modem before the dealer installed it.

Ford jacked up the price of short-term access a couple of years ago but you can get pretty reasonably priced subscription from https://www.alldatadiy.com/

Secret Ford Website -- Ultimate VIN Lookup

This site has been common knowledge for years. -
B11EE:19 A/C Compressor: Circuit Current Above Threshold Not sure what that has to do with the heater. Two modules losing programming is scary.

The TCU has nothing to do with unlocking or starting the car. All it does it handle the communications for MyFord Mobile and store the GO Times. I had a 2013 C-Max Energi and removed the TCU because it would get stuck on and drain the 12V battery. Sounds more like that is the problem. Pull out Fuse 10 in the passenger compartment fuse box for a couple of minutes and re-install, that should temporarily fix it if indeed that is the problem. The TCU will get replaced with one that works with AT&T 3G instead of the obsolete 2G, look for field service action 15N04 on this forum as well as on owner.ford.com

I hear that there is a large plaque with those very words hanging on the wall in the Ford software development department. ;)

12 volt Batery dead - Telematics Control Unit
jdbob replied to Phatman's topic in Batteries & Charging
In my case TSB 14-0155 for the C-Max Energi had this: WARRANTY STATUS: Eligible Under Provisions Of New Vehicle Limited Warranty Coverage I would think the same would apply to Fusion Energi. Dealer replaced it at no cost when they did the replacement RCM recall. This was within the 3 year original warranty so that may have something to do with it. -
That's what I found. As long as I didn't drive out of town into 2G coverage it was fine. But when I went on vacation and there was 2G and then came back home, the next day the battery would be dead. After about the 3rd time I removed the TCU. Got it replaced under warranty this April so at least Go Times would work. Will be interesting to hear from Ford what the terms of the 3G replacement TCU will be.
-
I saw that in the Focus Electric forum too. Guessing December 31st? ;) Someone in the Lincoln MKC forum got the update but the new one was broken, and they said it was backordered until October. So, typical Ford. :rant2:
-
It's probably still AT&T. The new TCU (serial number starting with T) handles 3G:
-
If you can find the "Information" screen on the touchscreen (I don't know where it is on a Fusion) then there should be an item that says something like CPPM ESN. The old modems started with a "N", the new ones appear to start with a "T". The Ford website still says you need a 2G connection.
-
Unlikely. The replacement modems that Ford has provided to Mercury Hybrid owners are 3G http://fordcmaxenergiforum.com/topic/4681-att-to-shut-down-2g-network-by-january-1-2017/?do=findComment&comment=37870

Not even close Larry. The EVSE generates the pilot signal, not the car. The pilot signal lets the car the maximum current it can draw from the EVSE. For instance, 24A is represented as 40%. If the charging power only tapers off during the last five to ten minutes then it wouldn't be practical for the EVSE to use that to guess the battery state of charge. I was thinking about a Tesla, where the power starts to taper off much much earlier.
-
I don't expect Ford to do anything. I wonder if it were possible to do something at the EVSE end. I thought you had a graph that showed the charging current tapering off when getting full, but didn't find it. I'm thinking that a EVSE could be setup so that it will charge up to say 80% (just in case you need the car at an unexpected time) based on the taper and then remove the pilot signal to stop charging. At some later time (like 30 or 40 minutes before you expect to leave) it could re-enable the pilot to resume charging to 100%. I almost always use the car to go into town shopping around 1:30-1:40PM on Monday and Thursday, so that's what I set the "GO Times" to. I also often go into town on Saturday, but not at any specific time, in that case I use Remote Start to precondition the cabin. But of course I might make an unexpected trip at any time so don't want to have just whatever was left in the battery the last time I came home, but 80% would do me except for winter.

Look at the Tesla model S numbers and how they change form month to month. Tesla builds on a timetable based on different regions of the planet. US sales will be up into the thousands again by the end of the quarter.
